Thetis Island Improvement District AGM and Election

The Thetis Island Improvement District (TIID) will be holding its Annual General Meeting and Trustee Election on Saturday May 9th, 2026, at 11 AM at Forbes Hall Community Center. 

Trustees Graeme Shelford and Keith Rush terms are up this year, and they both will be standing for re-election.

Anyone wishing to seek election as a trustee must obtain an expression of interest form from Anne-Marie Koeppen (gotoannemarie@hotmail.com) and make a submission of interest to her no later than 12 noon on Friday April 3rd, 2026.

If necessary, there will be an advance poll on Saturday April 25th, 2025, at Forbes Hall from 10 AM to 12 noon, in addition to the voting opportunity at the AGM.

To be eligible to stand for the position of trustee and or vote in an Improvement District election you must be a Canadian citizen, 18 years or older, a resident of BC for at least 6 months prior to the vote and own land in the Improvement District.

Census Canada Hiring

Approximately 32,000 staff will be hired across Canada, and nearly 600 right here on Vancouver Island/surrounding islands. The rate of pay starts at $25 an hour, and most roles are between 20 and 40 hours of work a week, including a mix of days, evenings, and weekends, depending on the assignment.

In terms of timing, a few waves of recruitment are anticipated based on these start dates:
1. Non-supervisory positions: March to mid-April
2. Spares/backup staff: May through July

Reminder: Invasive Plant Removal Weekend (This Weekend!)

After a week of rain, the forecast is looking sunny and pleasant for the weekend!

Date(s): Saturday, March 21 & Sunday, March 22
Time: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Location: Fairyslipper Forest Nature Reserve (Meet at the Fairyslipper parking lot across from The Portal on North Cove Rd)

We’ll be removing Scotch broom under the power lines and along North Cove Road, and English holly within the Nature Reserve. Even an hour or two makes a big difference!

Please bring gloves, pruning tools, and lunch if staying for the full time.
