Discussion Group Meeting ~ January 14th 7:00PM

Dear Friends:

In case you missed the announcement I sent out, our first discussion group will take place tomorrow evening, January 14, 7:00 p.m. at my place, 81 Blue Heron Road.

Please bring a flashlight and park on the road.

Also, come prepared to introduce yourself and share with us one or two of the many issues and questions that concern you these days.

As I learned from my Indigenous friends during four years of research, talking is easy for some folks, but listening is an art that few of us have perfected.

I look forward to seeing you, and seeing how this idea develops.

Cheers,

Gary

Looking for Used Vehicle

We are looking for a second vehicle, and we just wanted to put it out there before we bought something off island.

Maybe somebody has a vehicle they're not using and would be willing to sell and/or trade for firewood for next year or chainsaw work.

We're not looking to spend a lot of money, so if it needs some work, no problem (will consider all beaters!).

Thanks,

Anaïs & Travis

Thank You for a Great Conversation

Thank you to all who turned out for the useful conversation about what the recent storm taught us about our preparedness and individual responsibilities in these situations.

There will be a report in the coming Quarterly.

Tuesday & Thursday Yoga Classes

Hello Fellow Islanders,

I am looking forward to returning to teach yoga classes, and am pulling my head, legs and arms out of the turtle shell I wrapped myself in last year.  I had a tough year of healing from bulging disks damaged by a rear-end car accident in the previous year.  I could barely walk from January to April and spent most of the year regaining strength and movement.  Thanks to a very gentle yoga practice I am once again returning to share my passion for this practice. As many of you who have suffered from chronic pain know, there is often a deep emotional process that also happens with long-term pain and injury and yoga is the best therapy for gently pulling oneself back into the world.

So, you are invited to bring your stiff joints, and your tight muscles to a gentle practice of yoga.  We concentrate on connected our breath to conscious movement create awareness of sensation in the body, honouring your body, where ever you are at. I took two separate yoga teacher training workshops last year for trauma and addiction and incarcerated clients. My classes have mellowed as I have aged. I am a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT), and a Certified Holistic Health Practitioner (CHHP) and I have studied nutrition at CSNN for the past 5 years on and off; and it is my greatest joy to share the benefits of yoga with you.

You can even sit in a chair if the floor is to hard to get down to and you will still get all the benefits - so again come on out try something new and discover a new peace within yourself.

I recommend you wear layers of clothes that are comfortable to move in.  Bring a yoga mat (if you have one) and a blanket.  Try not to eat anything heavy an hour or two before class, better to eat an early lunch after class.  Please take your shoes off outside the room and arrive 5-10 minutes early to set up. We start right at 9:30 and end at 10:45. If you have any questions, or would like a private one-on-one first to see what we do please feel free to call me at 250-210-0826 or email me at dawn_gordon@telus.com.  I have a full schedule so please be patient with me, I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Let's make 2019 a great year of health.

Tuesday and Thursday Yoga classes Schedule

Here are the current dates for Tues and Thur yoga classes - Jan 8 & 10, Jan 15 & 17, CANCELLED Jan 22nd, back Jan 24, 29 & 31st.

I will send out an espokes if there are any changes to this.

Chimney Sweeps Coming

Dear Friends:

Even though it was cleaned by Blackjack during the summer, my chimney is blocked with creosote from constant use of the insert, so I am asking Blackjack to set a date to clean it again and install a proper cap. They can’t do it for a week or two, but encouraged me to enlist some others on Thetis who may need the same service. Perhaps you could phone or email them and copy me if you decide to join the group for a cheaper rate. Here are their phone number and email.

Thanks,

Gary Geddes
