Friday, January 4, 2019 at 10:13AM The TIVFD requires 15 feet of clearance from your driveway roadbed to tree limbs or wires (and 12’ driveway width clearance) for access by emergency vehicles.
After the BIG storm you may no longer have that clearance. Please email chief11@telus.net if you have a low hanging telephone line across your driveway that you have informed Telus about.
We will hang some flagging tape on it so we can see it if we have to respond to your address before it is repaired by Telus. We don’t want to rip out the phone wire or damage our trucks.
And since you are out assessing your driveway, make sure you have cleared your downed trees right back to a 12’ driveway width, and have checked that your lot number sign is clearly visible from both directions (Numbers on the sign must be a minimum of 3” height).
Thank you for making our job easier; to get to you quickly when you need us.

Friday, January 4, 2019 at 10:06AM REMINDER:
The new Friday schedule takes affect this Friday, January 4. Here is the link to the updated schedule on BC: Ferries site
https://www.bcferries.com/schedules/southern/chti-current.php?scheduleSelect=sch010119011.html
Here is the link to the phone book style schedule
http://thetisisland.net/ferry/2019-Jan-to-March-schedule-final.jpg
Note: the two revisions being the DG sailing leaves Thetis on the 1:10 returning to Chemainus on alternate Thursdays (beginning today, January 3); and the Friday schedule starts earlier, 6:00 am, so sailing times are adjusted throughout the day and finish just a bit later. All information is on the above link.

Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 4:12PM Please consider donating storm felled Douglas Fir logs to the Forbes Hall Expansion & Upgrade.
Logs must 14’ - 16’ long, and a minimum of 14” in diameter to be suitable for some of the exposed joists, and interior trim.
We are just starting to put together a plan for the pick up and processing of the logs, but for now we just don’t want useable logs cut, if you would like them to be used in the hall construction.
What a silver lining this could be from the Storm of December 2018.
Please email hall@thetisisland.net with your name & contact information, along with the number of logs you might have available.
Thanks!

Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 3:52PM Dear Islanders, first, I want to applaud and give huge thanks to all those in the TIFD, and all the islanders that leapt to help, responding in ways great and small, sharing skills and ingenuity galore!
I had very mixed feelings about having been gone for two weeks. I missed the whole thing! And while I missed a traumatic experience, I also missed doing my part, and being apart of Thetis Island Community Magic.... I would like to be a part of debriefing this event in preparation for the future.
I'm sure that most of you have thought deeply about the ways that the island response was amazing and the ways that we are needing to rethink how we might be better prepared for what is surely a changing future.
I am inviting those interested to share your ideas on what has been successful, and how we can improve helping ourselves and sharing in the responsibility for our future emergency preparedness.
Thursday, January 10, for 7:00 at my house, 272 Forbes Road
Take care,
Mary Forbes
Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 3:44PM I have had to give my eucalyptus a large trim.
If you would like some branches they are on the front lawn. Help yourself!
