Successful Wildfire Seminar

Thank you to the 30 folk who came out to the Wildfire Community Preparedness seminar on Saturday. Great participation and attendees learned how to reduce the risk of total loss from wildfire to their homes and the community.

With a demonstration of the Wildfire Sprinkler Protection Kit, seven more residents expressed an interest in purchasing. We need a minimum of ten orders, so if interested please email chief11@telus.net and your name will be added to the list. The kit costs $175, taxes and shipping to Thetis is included, and contains 2 low pressure agricultural grade sprinkler heads, 2 mounting brackets and two 25’ lengths of flat garden thread forestry hose.

Coincidentally, 90 minutes after the Fire Smart presentation ended, the department was paged out for an illegal burn pile fire. The permanent resident was unaware of fire permits, the yard waste ban, and the smoke control regulations. Thanks to a passer-by who called in to 911 we were able to extinguish the fire and educate the owner.
