TIVFD Permits & Status

Campfire Permits will be extended only to June 16th (Sunday) on Thetis Island

The Coastal Fire Centre lists our zone (South Island) as HIGH Hazard with areas of EXTREME.  Cedar was listed at EXTREME on Wednesday.

The Province will be reviewing campfire bans early next week but locally we will have a Complete Campfire Ban in place from midnight Sunday June 16th.

The Campfire Ban does not include approved propane campfire appliances. Propane campfires limited to a less than 18” flame are still permitted.

There are no forest restrictions or High Risk Activities in effect at this time but we urge you to get your high risk activities (chainsawing, mowing etc.) completed before 11 am and have fire suppression means on standby where you are working.

Any outdoor spark is a danger to our island and the forecast for our area has us entering into an extended period of hot, dry weather.

Section 3 of the Wildfire Act - Mishandling burning Substances, and Section 204 of the Motor Vehicle Act - Depositing Articles on Highway, make it an offence to toss butts onto the road. Call *5555 or 911 to report offenders.

May 30th the Category 2 Ban was put into place and that included all yard waste/burn piles, fireworks, firecrackers, sky lanterns, burn barrels and burn cages of any size or description, and binary exploding targets (includes rockets).

We will keep you updated as to forest/ high-risk activity restrictions as more weather data comes in.
