News re Charlie Fordham, Capernwray

Dear Friends,
We wanted to fill the community in on some recent events regarding Charlie Fordham, who many of you know personally. (He and his wife Marlene arrived on Thetis in 1979 and founded Capernwray Harbour Bible Centre.)
A couple of weeks ago Charlie experienced what was thought to be a stroke in one of his eyes resulting in a complete loss of vision in that eye. Over the following days the situation developed, and he was in the hospital for almost a week, and diagnosed with a rare form of Temporal Arteritis. Unfortunately, over that time his condition worsened, and he lost sight in his other eye as well, and is now completely blind.
Charlie has been home for three days now and we are working together as a family and a staff community to provide the best care that we can for him and Marlene moving forward. Needless to say, it will be a long journey for each of us as we adjust to this new season.
Charlie is in good spirits and seems otherwise healthy and feeling well, learning new routines and ways of going about his day. You may see him on the ferry or around our property if you happen be here when he is out and about with a helper to guide him. He would, of course, be encouraged to hear your voice and have a chat if you have a moment.
We don't take for granted the wonderful place in which we live and the care that Charlie has been able to receive. We are grateful to live in a wonderful community like Thetis Island and we thank you for your support in this time.
