Canadian Cancer Society ~ Canvassing

Thetis Island has contributed generously to The Canadian Cancer Society over the years and we canvassers are most grateful.  Many new families have made Thetis Island their new home and we would like to try a gentle and unobtrusive  way of contacting each and every one of you.

If you wish to donate to the Cancer Canvas 2017 Program and your Lot Number is between:

1 - 45   please phone Helen Bird (246-2469)

46 - 110 & 296 or 297 please phone Tooner Knowles  (246-9626)

111 - 240 please phone Merry Gooding (416-0200)

241 - 411 please phone Simone Luckham  (246-2802)

We would be happy to connect with you for a donation made to The Canadian Cancer Society.  More info on what is done with the money can be read on http://www.cancer.ca/en/get-involved/support-us/how-your-donations-help/?region=bc

SOAS Request

School Orchards Africa plants fruit trees in Tanzanian school yards and thought it would be appropriate to plant one at our local school.

A fig tree will be donated but we still need some page wire/chicken wire and some lengths of rebar to protect the tree from the ever-marauding deer.

If you have some kicking about in a shed and have been wondering what to do with it we certainly would be very grateful for the donation.

Please contact Maureen at 250-246-2184 or Cecilia at 250-246-3013. Thank you

Additional Topsoil Orders

Good news - topsoil orders are re-opened! Due to popular demand, we have made a special arrangement to bring a second load of premium organic topsoil to Thetis Island. The topsoil is provided at low cost by Cinnabar Valley Farms as an annual fundraiser for the Nanaimo Track and Field Club (our daughter Kaz is now a member).

A 40 pound bag costs $5 for the topsoil and we are requesting an additional 'voluntary contribution' of $1 per bag to help with the cost of ferry transportation to Thetis since Ron needs to take his flatbed trailer and make 2 trips due to volume.

New orders (and additions to existing orders) will be taken until Friday April 14th. Please contact Kelly Bannister at kelly_bannister@telus.net to make arrangements.

--Thank you for your support from the Bannister's

Scam Alert

Here's the latest (attempted) ploy.

Phone calls from "RBC" asking to speak to ________, in this case it was our son.

The real live person saying; "They need to get in touch with,_________, very important we speak to him/her"

The number on your display may appear as a; 1-800, or, even 1-604 (mainland BC.). RCMP suggests, "you note number and hang-up, and contact them" ***

I recently reported this to our RCMP Liaison, Staff Brissard,

Ladysmith Detachment. Ken advised me this is a "new one" for them. He followed up by contacting RBCs Media/Fraud Department.***

BTW: Ken and his partner are hoping to join our resident's for Soup's On, in the very near future. We will keep you posted.

Many THANKS to Ken Brissard for his support

Steve Frankel
