Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 10:19PM Please note that work to replace the rotten material covering the Notice Boards at the ferry line-up will commence Tuesday May 29th.
All notices will be removed during the process. Notices that are not outdated will be put back up once the work is completed.
There was to be a notice on the Notice Boards about the work being done, but unfortunately, it also had to be removed,
Thanks all,
TIRRA Exec

Come to the Thetis Island Nature House (The Portal, North Cove Rd) on June 22 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to train to monitor forage fish habitat with the Mt. Arrowsmith Biosphere Region Research Institute (MABRI) from Vancouver Island University. Forage fish like Pacific sand lance and surf smelt are important food for salmon and other species. It's fun and easy. No previous experience needed. Rubber boots or water shoes recommended.

Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 10:07PM A good friend and neighbour was in a bit of medical distress on Sunday, which reminded me to remind you that even though it is still only May, you must remember to drink fluids throughout the day, more so in this weather.
Seniors are especially vulnerable to dehydration without even knowing it, and dehydration can cause dizziness (among other problems) which can lead to a fall. Experts generally recommend that older adults consume at least 1.7 liters of fluid per 24 hours. This corresponds to 57.5 fluid ounces, or 7.1 cups.
It doesn't have to be water. Tea, juices, sports drinks etc. (Alcohol doesn't count!).

Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 10:32AM There has been some tree cutting taking place at St.Margarets Cemetery.
It has become clear this spring that many of the cedars in the cemetery were dead or dying. The effects of hotter drier summers and the powder post beetle are taking their toll on cedars throughout the Southern Vancouver Island area. A decision was made to take then down before we continue with development of the new green cemetery and other remediation work being done on the bank and within the old cemetery.
It should also be made known that sadly, the large stand of old cedars right at the entrance to the cemetery are dying. These too will be brought down. All of these measures open new opportunities for things like green burials and reforesting.
It is also in the long term interest of the cemetery. I am interested to hear from anyone who is familiar with making split cedar rails for fencing. Call Suzanne 250-246-9965.
