Post Office ~ Computer Issues

Hello Thetis Islanders,

The Computer at the Post Office has stopped working. A new one is being sent out and may take a week for arrival and installation. Until then I cannot process ant packages or parcels going out. I also cannot sell stamps or other products. This will not affect any letters going out. Parcels and packages may be delayed one day because of the manual process involved.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Also, I'm finding flyers stuffed back in the mail slots. You have a choice if you want flyers. If you do not want flyers please contact me at the post office or leave a message in your box.

Thank You,

Postmaster (Kevin)

Provincial Voting Day Info ~ May 9th

THETIS ISLAND is in the NORTH COWICHAN-NANAIMO area

Vote on General Voting Day:

General Voting Day is Tuesday, May 9. Voting places will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Pacific time).

Thetis Island Voting Place is Forbes Hall on Mission Road. Wheelchair accessible.  Bring ID with your address and photo.  You must be a Canadian citizen and resident of BC to vote.  If you are new to Thetis, you can register with your new Thetis address here on voting day.  You must be 18 years old or older on May 9th.

Vote at advance voting:

Advance voting is available on Thursday May 4 in Ladysmith at 810 6th Avenue and in Chemainus on Saturday May 6th at 9775 Chemainus Road.   Advance voting places are open from 8am to 8 pm. All voters can vote at any open advance voting place, and all advance voting places are wheelchair accessible. (Not every advance voting place is open every day).

Vote at any district electoral office:

Voting is available at any district electoral office from now until 4 p.m. on General Voting Day.  The nearest DEO to us is in Ladysmith, near the Coronation Mall at the old Davis Road School at 444 Parkhill Terrace.

Vote by mail:

Voters can ask for a vote by mail package. Packages can be requested by calling 1-800-661-8683 or by using the online form.

Important note: Voters are responsible for ensuring that their voting package is received by the district electoral office that issued it before 8 p.m. (Pacific time) on May 9. Packages received after the deadline cannot be counted.

Packages should take approximately seven days to arrive by mail, but may take longer. While packages can be requested until 4 p.m. (Pacific time) on May 9 under the Election Act, Elections BC cannot guarantee that you will receive your package in time to return it before the deadline.

Mobility Issues:

If you have difficulty (mobility issues) getting out of your vehicle and into the Voting Place at Forbes Hall, park in front of the hall and tell someone going in, or politely honk, and we will bring the Polling Booth out to your vehicle as soon as possible.

THIEF ON ISLAND

On April 30 someone siphoned all the gas from a vehicle parked at ferry terminal. In the process the siphon hose damaged the sensing unit in the tank to the tune of $200+.

Be aware.
