Coastal Fire Weather Forecast for Weekend

SYNOPSIS: A one-day ridge moves over the Coastal Fire Centre today {Thursday}, ahead of cooler and wetter conditions this weekend.

We’ll see mostly sunny and dry conditions with seasonal temperatures and a SW flow overall today. Wind gusts will be in the 25-30 km/h range.
A trough of low pressure will start to slide south along the coast throughout the day. Haida Gwaii will see some showers and light rain starting this afternoon.

Tonight {Thursday night}, the ridge of high pressure continues to track east which will open the door for the low to fully move over Coastal.

Friday will be a cooler day by a few degrees as the trough brings overcast skies and showers. Rain will move from the NW to the SE through the day. Wind gusts are expected to pick up through CoFC into the 30-35 km/h range and some areas in the Fraser Valley seeing some 40 km/h gusts.

OUTLOOK: Saturday to Monday: This weekend the trough of low pressure is the main feature keeping temperatures at seasonal or slightly below. We’ll also see rain through the day Saturday, with higher accumulations expected along the Coastal Mountain range.

On Sunday showers will be pulled into the SE corner if the Fraser Zone.
Monday another ridge of high-pressure returns, with an uptick in temperatures and drying.

Farewell to Jean Tannahill

It is with sadness that the family of Jean Tannahill would like to inform the community of friends on Thetis of her death. Jean passed away quietly after a long illness on Sept 11.

Jean lived on Thetis for a number of years. She and her partner Bob Burgess operated Rainwater Connection, designing rainwater catchment systems here on Thetis and the Gulf Islands. Previous to her life on Thetis, Jean was a nurse who worked in cardiac care and public health in Victoria.

She was an avid knitter, quilter, loved reading and writing poetry, walking and awing in the beauty and silences of wherever she found herself.

Jean spent her last days at home in Sidney supported by family and friends and only at the last moment went into hospice care.

There will be no funeral or memorial as per her request but condolences are welcomed. Contact Crtelford@gmail.com

Jean is survived by her children: Camplin Telford (wife Rebecca and son Elan); Kate Hamilton (husband Mike and son Jackson); Kennedy Telford (wife Kim); Jean’s brother Tim Tannahill and family in Ontario; and Bob’s sons Scott and Brady Burgess.
Jean was pre-deceased by her partner Bob Burgess in 2023.
