A Message from the Solid Waste Yard Volunteers

To: a small group who Don't and/or who Won't

An Ode FOR the Solid Waste Yard

To Those of you who Don't

And those of you who Won't

Help us with  not having to Bawl

There's  stuff that has our skin Crawl

Why, it raising to heights our Gall

Respect! what we all need, that's All

So, let's work together and all stand Tall

Any help you can give  no matter how Small

Translation:

To Those of you  Who Don't and Those who Won't, we ask you to please; rinse food containers, cans containing pet foods and human products. Plastic returnable bags should be clean. Returnable bottles: How long does it take to rinse a beer, wine or other bottles?

Some of the stuff received is absolutely horrible. those of you who won't and those of you who don't, Well you don't have to deal with it at the yard, because, most of the work is done by our community volunteers.

There are health concerns, smell concerns, and concerns around respect for the workers/volunteers and Thetis Island

The vast majority of residents and property owners, are extremely helpful and supportive. Sadly, there a few that ain't.

Hopefully, this friendly message will help convince the; Donter' and Wonter's to change the way they bring THEIR materials to the site and to the volunteers. By doing that, you will be contributing to our whole community.

To Quote the Beach Boy's; "Wouldn't it be nice.......

Thank You,

Steve Frankel

A Lovely Welcome for Livia ~

A happy, loving bunch of islanders turned out to welcome Livia into our community at an Open House held at Tom & Gloria's.  Livia did well, being very social, and cooed happily through the afternoon.

A big thank you to Tom & Gloria for hosting this event.

Another Break-In ~

We were at our property at 408 Kenwood this past weekend (April 18th) and found that we had been broken into as well. A bedroom window had been forced open and our alcohol and power tools were taken.

Wildfire Preparedness Seminar ~ May 2nd

TOGETHER WE ARE PREPARED!

Join the TIVFD, Thetis Island ESS, Thetis Island LERN, ARCTIC, and the Ministry of Forests for an important and informative Wildfire Preparedness Seminar at Forbes Hall Community Centre, 10:30 to noon on Saturday, May 2nd.

Information on how to prepare your property, what a local wildfire response entails, evacuation procedures, and much more.  Some great short videos from Fire Smart Canada will be shown, giving you ideas on how to reduce your risk of loss during a wildfire invent.

We invite questions for the panel. There will be information pamphlets to guide you on wildfire loss mitigation and other fire prevention information.

Please join us.  This is the only workshop of this kind on Thetis Island this year and you will want to attend to make sure you are prepared for a long, hot and dry summer that brings an increased risk of wildfire.  Saturday May 2nd is NATIONAL WILDFIRE COMMUNITY PREPAREDNESS DAY and we are hoping to reach as many people as possible on Thetis Island with this event.

Merry's Two Deadlines

April has been busy with two activities very close to my heart.

1.  Completion of the Cancer Canvassing by April 30th.  As always, The Island has been most generous.  There are a few more days left if we have missed you and you still wish to contribute.

2.  I hope to have all of the collection of 'Memories of Teddy' in by mid-May.  Please send me a memory or adventure that you may have of our Dear Teddy.

Most Appreciated,

Merry Gooding
