Greetings
The Thetis Island Ferry Advisory Committee (Sue French, Steve Frankel, Art Hunter, and Keith Rush) met with BC Ferries representatives on Monday May 26th in Chemainus.
The main focus of the meeting was to review how the new schedule is working. As we have only had the schedule for a month BC Ferries does not have any reliable data at this point. However, it appears to be working fairly well, with most sailings running at or close to on time. There have been reports of overloads on some sailings at all three terminals, but again no hard data at this time. By the middle of July, BC Ferries will have more information on overloads, on time performance, crossing times and fuel consumption.
We had a long discussion on the frequency and timing for the Dangerous Goods sailings. We wanted to see if we could manage with DG twice a month instead of weekly. In the end we concluded that it is early days with the new schedule and we would revisit the topic at our fall meeting. In the meantime if you have any questions regarding DG please click here to go to the BC Ferries website.
We also discussed the possibility of setting up a webcam on Penelakut Island. BC Ferries will explore this with folks from Penelakut.
Finally a reminder that the MV Kuper will be going in for dry docking and refitting from October 14th to December 12th. The Kalokee will be the replacement ship.
