Forbes Hall Clean-Up Day ~ Saturday, May 3rd

Put Saturday May 3rd on your calendars as it is the annual "Clean-up Forbes Hall Day."
We are looking for volunteers to help us give the hall a good spit and polish.
We only ask for 4 hours of your time and will reward you with coffee and cookies.

If you like gardening instead of vacuuming Lesley and Randy Buhr have work for you!
No need to wear designer clothes as this is a get down and dirty job.
Remember that is Saturday May 3rd, 9am to 1pm.

Also needed is someone knowledgeable about the wall hanging to give it a bit of a tidy up.
Thank you
contact me if you have any questions @ 250-246-3091

Thank You to Thetis Islanders & First Responders

I wish to thank all the residents of Thetis Island who sent thoughts and prayers and well wishes to Richard after his recent accident.  It has now been six weeks into his healing and he is doing amazingly well. He broke 13+ ribs, punctured his lung, had a grade 3 concussion with a brain bleed damaged his adrenal gland, broke some small bones in the small of his back, and had top to bottom bruising after a fall off our roof.
The Community support and caring has been amazing and im sure that has helped in his recovery. He has a long way to go but is very motivated.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.  This is a caring community and a great place to live.
Special thanks to Karen Michie for driving me to the hospital, and Rick Gregerson for cleaning up all Richards tools, and to Leanne Cone for taking care of our animals. Thanks also to Steve LaVigne and his dad for cutting some firewood for us.
Extra thanks go out to Thetis Island First Responders.  Please consider volunteering to this worthwhile endeavour.
On another note.. PLEASE ALWAYS USE SAFETY EQUIPMENT.  Life is precious.
Thank you all.
Richard and Tess DeMarco

Help Needed with Hen Saddle Sewing Project

I'm looking for someone to make 7 hen saddles which are used to protect the hens' back from the roosters claws when breeding. I've provided a link below that explains step by step how it's made. If you think this is something you may be able to assist me with please contact Travis at Jollity Farm.

Thanks You from the Sinclairs & Kastings

The Kasting and Sinclair families would like to extend our thanks to everyone who came to Jo Ateah's Memorial Gathering on Monday, April 21st. We especially would like to thank Nettie Hayter, Gloria Taylor, Shirley Burr, Nan Beal, Lucy Hayward and Edith Williams for their thoughtful contributions.

We also appreciated hearing stories that we had never heard before about Auntie Jo and her parents, Rupert and Laura Forbes. It was interesting to see how so many people were and are connected throughout the generations.

Thank you all.

TVFD ~ We Need Your Name! List Lost!

Throughout the past several years the TIVFD has supplied residents who have water storage tanks over 1,000 gallons with a fire department fitting when requested.  This fitting allows the fire department to draw water from the tank during a fire emergency on the property or nearby.

Unfortunately, when our hall computer crashed and destroyed our records, we lost the list of residents to whom we had supplied the fittings.

If you received a fire department fitting for your water storage tank, please let us know and we can build the list again.  Send a note to chief11@telus.net

Thank you.

Aikido Lessons Available but Lodging Needed

I'm hoping to travel to Thetis Island this summer with a couple of Japanese guests. One is a 6th degree black belt, an Aikido Shihan (master teacher), in his seventies and the other is his interpreter and a highly ranked Aikido practitioner as well. This will be a much anticipated first time visit to Canada for both of them. We are planning to be on island between July 21st and August 15th. We will be holding weekday Aikido classes on island and be off to teaching engagements on the weekends.

We have a host for the time we are on Thetis in August, but are still in need of accommodations during July. Does anybody have a vacant cottage for the last couple weeks in July or need house sitting? I have excellent references; just ask around. Our trip from Japan will be extremely expensive so money will be a little tight. We would like to barter for lodging if possible.

I have tools and both my interpreter friend and myself have lots of experience in all aspects of construction and gardening. If you think that you could accommodate us please contact me in Tokyo at islandsedge@yahoo.com

TIRRA Recycle-Garbage Yard Changes

Note link on the right hand side bar of the blog to view the bulletin regarding the yard changes.

Ernie Hunter

TIRRA

Comment:

The recent changes in the Thetis Island Waste Management take a little thought. Note that by charging for garbage, TIRRA is putting the real cost of the most costly element of waste disposal on those who produce it. If trashing everything is your favourite recycling procedure, you will pay the cost of it.

Consider further that garbage which contains recycling could subject our entire system to fines. Measures to defend our system from fines are cost savings measures, NOT privacy invasions.

What are your thoughts on the recent changes?

While very grateful for the work of the committee, my feeling is that the communication about changes has been somewhat vague. Explaining the change is difficult for the committee and understanding the meaning has been hard for the community.
