Ragged Island

As most of you are aware, Ragged Island is an "unofficial" (at this point in time) bird and marine life habitat.

It is unfortunately, not officially protected. That leaves the responsible, careful , protective use of it up to us.

Many of us love the ability to take boat trips to the Island, to spend a few very special unique hours on this piece of paradise; especially this time of year! 

Please, remind visitors and others; of the following:

No Pets,

No Fires

No Over Night Camping

Do not go near active or inactive bird nests

Stay away from baby seals

Lost Metal Wallet

One of our crew members, Taylor Gates, lost her colourful metal clip on wallet yesterday somewhere

between Telegraph Harbour Marina and the ferry. It contains her BC Experience ferry card, her drivers license, bank card a Pharma Save card.

Smoking Banned on Community Trail.

With the COMPLETE FIRE BAN starting Monday, July 14th, due to the EXTREME Fire Hazard rating, smoking is prohibited on the Community Trail (Lawrence Trail) by order of the Fire Chief.

If you are a smoking elsewhere outdoors, please field strip your cigarette butt when finished and dispose of it safely.

This project is a wonderful opportunity to preserve 40 acres of at risk Coastal Douglas Fir and Arbutus woodlands here on Thetis Island.

Hazard Rating Climbing

We will be going to EXTREME Fire Hazard on Monday, July 14th.  There will be no open burning allowed starting Monday July 14th.  This means NO Campfires.
Propane BBQs are allowed if safety precautions are in place.  Propane BBQs do not produce sparks and are in an enclosed metal case.
No campfire permits will be approved for campfires after Sunday July 13th.  If you already have your campfire permit in place for the weekend, be extremely cautious with your campfire.  Do not light it if conditions are windy.  Watch it at all times.  Extinguish it so well that you would not be worried about placing a baby's bare bottom on the ashes.
Starting Monday, July 14th, please report all smoke sightings to 911.
There have been several bush fires around us recently, including today, and the forecast is for drying winds and very high temperatures this coming week.

Be safe, and be alert.

Book & Bake Sale ~ Saturday August 2 ~ Forbes Hall

YIPES! The famous Book and Bake Sale is soon approaching.  Some folks have already committed to bringing baking (thank you) but I realize I should probably have some kind of list so it is not all chocolate cheesecakes. If you would like to donate baking, please send me a note so I don't panic about not enough baking.  No one wants to see a panicky librarian.  

I have sellers for the baked goods but I could use a few people to carry books from the shed to the hall on Friday Aug.1 at noon.  Many hands make light work apparently.  I learned this from the last book sale.

I have some folks willing to take the book money, but if you are keen to have some fun as a book seller (maybe for an hour instead of 4) please let me know.
