Barbara Findlay Memorial Contributions

The family has requested that contributions be made to the Thetis Island Seniors' Committee. What a lovely gesture! Cheques can be made out to TICA, with a notation on the bottom that they are in memory of Barbara, who is one of the Founders of the Seniors' Dinner Events, a successful monthly social time from Sept to April. Monies will be held to be used for projects that the Committee is working on, benefiting seniors and all other community members. If you are not attending the Memorial Tea, send donations to TICA Box 14-0. Tax receipts issued.

The Memorial Tea for Barbara will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, September 14th at Forbes Hall.

Septic ~ Flushable Wipes

Thinking of ways to keep our bathrooms sanitary is important to all of us. A lot of people are using flushable wipes these days.Unfortunately these wipes do not break down like toilet paper causing huge issues that can be costly to homeowners.

Consider disposing them in a sealed trash container instead of flushing into your septic system.

Thanks.

Comment Regarding Garbage/Recycle Parcel Tax ~ S. Frankel

Please bear with me as  I would like to add some thoughts to my original BLOG of September 1st.
To those individuals, (part-time or full time residents) who are in opposition to the fees/Parcel Tax needed to sustain our solid waste/recycle system, please take a moment to consider these questions and  points:
1.  You are also paying school taxes. These taxes support the very high quality of education our students recieve both on Thetis Island and in Chemainus.
Would you use the same arguments that you use in your  oppostition to the solid waste tax?  That is; "I have no kids in school here, why sould I support my taxes going to the school!" Albeit, the school to is an essential service for our Island community.
2. Are you opposed to providing fianancial support (tax) to our  Thetis Island Improvement District which oversees our VOLUNTEER (There's that V Word again;  VOLUNTEER) Fire Department?  A very essesntial  community service. Or, would your argument again be; "I never use the TIVFD services"....You are fortunate that you never required the needs for their life saving and fire rescue services, along with other numerous areas of support; education, training, etc.
3. You may not believe in taxation for services, in part because you are a Part Time Resident". I would guess that if the need arose you certainly would make use of the various Essential Energency services. I can think of a number of examples that individuals have in fact made that "call for help".
4. Our community is a vibrant, caring, friendly place. The common factor is that people who live here, chose to do so, for the qualities, community values, and beauty of our (fortunate)location and having the good fortune to be able to live in this wonderful part of the world.
We ALL have a responsibility to; CONTRIBUTE, SUSTAIN, GIVE BACK TO, PARTICIPATE, VOLUNTEER in our community, whether we are full-time or part-time residents. This is what makes a great community healthy and sustainable, and when added up is for our individual and the collective good.
Again, thank you for taking the time to read my opinions.
