Harry Jepson

Harry Jepson passed away Thursday night from complications resulting from a fall. Dad will be deeply missed by his family and wide circle of friends.

As per his written instructions, there will be no public service.  No flowers, please, but those who wish, may donate to the Thetis Island Library or the Cowichan Valley Hospice Society.

The family is grateful for the kind care and attention of the nurses at the Cowichan Valley Hospital and give special thanks to our Thetis Island First Responders.

Recycling & Garbage Update

Hello community,

This message is to let you know that updated recycling guidelines for Thetis Island have been posted. Click here to view.

At this time I would like to warmly thank our dedicated volunteers.  Volunteers are on site to help you sort your recycling. If occasionally you are in a hurry to the ferry and have a small amount to drop off, volunteers may be willing to sort on your behalf.

Please do not drop off large bags of unsorted and/or unclean recycling. We rely on you to stay and sort your items. Our friendly volunteers are happy to help you with this, as we understand that the categories can be confusing. For example, all clear plastic is not in the same category. It takes quite a bit of practice to keep it all straight.

Also, if you have a large amount, please make sure you come well before the noon closing. We don't want to burn out our fabulous volunteers!

There is no doubt about it, it takes a lot of effort to recycle properly. We really appreciate everyone's commitment to doing the best they can, and we know that none of us are perfect! The updated recycling guidelines in the link above are a very helpful resource to have printed out and handy wherever you do your recycling at home.

Thanks a bunch and see you all soon!

Thetis Is. Phonebook ~ Correction

A few more people have noticed that the number for the Chemainus medical clinic on page 55 of our Thetis Island Phone Book is wrong. This was one of the casualties of the printers printing an earlier draft of the phone book rather than the final one, so please, if you haven't corrected it in your copy yet, do so now while you think of it.  The right number is 250-246-3261.
And keep an eye on the Q for on-going corrections and updates.

Thank you!

Campfire Ban NOT Lifted on Thetis Island

The Province will be lifting the campfire ban in parts of the Coastal Region tomorrow, July 24th.  However, the CVRD in consultation with their Public Safety Manager and By-Law Enforcement Officer will NOT be lifting the campfire ban in the Cowichan Valley.  Nor will the TIVFD be lifting the campfire ban here on Thetis Island.

If you are travelling to other areas to camp, please consult the local area authorities for information.  The lifting of the ban in other areas will only be temporary.
