Summer Soiree 2014 ~ Thanks to All

On behalf of Thetis Island Community Association and Community Fund we would like to thank the community for supporting the 2014 Summer Soiree. The funds raised will help maintain and upgrade Forbes Hall and support the Community Fund.

Thanks to everyone who attended the event and to those who donated art and services for our silent and live auctions and easels for displaying the art. We’d especially like to thank Ellen Rush, event organizer, who led the wonderful team of volunteers who put the evening together. As you can see from the extensive list below, it does “take a community” to put on this event.  Look for photos and a report in the next issue of the Quarterly.

Again, thanks to everyone who helps keep our community alive and vibrant.

Hafla Coming to Thetis Island

Mark your calendars for September 27 and 28, 2014!

Thetis Island’s Gypsy Dancers of the Salish Sea invite you to join in the festivities for our Island Harvest Hafla – a fundraising event for the Thetis Island Nature Conservancy (ThINC) in support of the Lower Burchell Hill Nature Reserve Project. All proceeds, over and above our costs, will be donated to ThINC.

A Hafla is, essentially, a Middle Eastern party, and on Saturday night, we open our doors to the community to join the fun – food, dance performances, music, door prizes, and more.  Nettie and Don will be selling Middle Eastern cuisine from 5pm to 6:30, after which a variety of both local and visiting belly dancers will be performing, featuring, of course, our internationally renowned special guest, Amaya.

http://www.wisewomandancer.com

Amaya also will be offering two Workshops on Saturday, at 10am and 2pm, and a Master Class on Sunday at 2pm, as well as performing at Saturday night’s Hafla.  Saturday’s workshops are open to participants of all levels of experience - even if you have never belly danced before! It’s so fun – come and find out for yourself! To attend the Master class, the participant needs to have taken at least one of Saturdays’ workshops.

Pre-registration is required for the workshops.

The workshops are $30 each, or all three for $75.   First 30 registrants also receive a special DVD by Amaya, as an added bonus. For more information on the workshops or to register, please email Char Aaberg at halakidance@gmail.com

To upload a registration form, you can also click here to visit our Facebook events page.

Admission to the Hafla will be by donation.  This is sure to be a very fun night with good food, great entertainment, and lots of glitz!  We look forward to seeing you there.

Library Book & Bake Sale was a Great Success!

Very many thanks to the volunteers who set up the books, sold the books and baking, and packed the books away.
Thanks to those who donated books and the fabulous baking.
And of course those who bought the books and baking made it a good library fundraiser.
Thank you for the support fellow islanders.

Calling All True Liverpool Football Club Fans!

The season is about to get underway. The Marina has said that they may be able to let us view the early morning kick offs if a good number turn up!
Failing that, are there any fans on the island with a TV and like the idea of company for the games? Kick off ranges from 04.30 to 09.30 am Saturday or Sunday depending upon UK start times.
I'm new to the island, straight from Liverpool.
YNWA,
Dr Martin Randle

Dead Vehicle wanted for TIVFD

The fire department needs a towable dead vehicle to practice cutting up for a simulated rescue.  We are planning the drill for late summer/early autumn when it isn't so dry and hot.  We will have the vehicle towed to the wrecker after we have cut it up.  If you want to get rid of a dead car on your lot that you think would be suitable, please call the Duty Officer at 250-252-0228.  It must be towable (no flat tires).
