Sunday, January 19, 2025 at 8:42AM I just received a call from my buddy that he purchased a $500 Joker (Mastercard) at Rexall in Chemainus. Which he does quite regularly with no issues.
He owns one of the Meta Quest 3 VR headsets. When he went to make a $5.99 purchase, not only was the transaction declined, but his $500 Joker card was bricked! As in, now useless.
When he contacted Joker customer support, they advised him that ALL transactions involving Meta Quest would do this because Meta is connected to Facebook. And Facebook marketplace has a bad, and proven, record for scams and fraudulent activity.
They told him they would mail out a replacement card in 15 days! So now that $5.99 purchase has potentially cost $500.
Don't use Joker (Mastercard) for any purchases associated with Meta or meta quest / oculus products, or anything to do with Facebook.
He actually didn't even get to make any purchase. The card was bricked when he tried to connect it to his Meta account.
Gotta love technology!

The response of neighbours helping neighbours is heartwarming - thank you everyone for coming together in this time of need.
The TIVFD will accept cash donations for anyone who doesn't want to use the GoFundMe platform.
No more clothing is needed for now.
Money can be donated via the GoFundMe or by e-transfer to: rob.morton@penelakut.ca Walmart gift cards and food are appreciated.
Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 8:07AM The new ferry schedule is now printed on labels that can be attached to the back of your phone book, covering the old schedule to avoid confusion. If someone is going to be in Victoria and coming back here, and could pick them up for us, that would be wonderful.
They are at the 911 Fort Street address of the former Island Blue but should be picked up from their back door on Meares Street (for your convenience so you don't have to pay to park) between 8:30 – 4:00 Monday through Friday.
If anyone can do this for us, please let me know at veronicashelford@gmail.com or 250-701-9336.
Thank you!
Also - there were only 200 printed, and more than 100 have already been spoken for. If you want to be sure you get yours (at $1 apiece), please let me know so I can put you on the list.
