Shq’ula’tth’us

We invite the community to join us for a special gathering to acknowledge and honour Shq’ula’tth’us (refuge), the Hul’q’umi’num place name and history shared by Pune'luxutth Elder Florence James.

· When: 11:30 am Wednesday, July 17th
· Where: Marina Drive meets Pilkey Point Road, by the slough.

Elder Florence James will speak about the significance of this place in Pune'luxutth history, offering an excellent opportunity for place-based learning about this unique part of the Island’s geography.

Learn also about the more recent use of the valley beyond, over 100 years of farming.

Shq’ula’tth’us continues to be a place of refuge for wetland flora and fauna.

Join us in this special Island event.

This is an initiative of:

ThINC (Thetis Island Nature Conservancy)
TIRRA (Thetis Island Residents and Ratepayers Association/trails)
TICA (Thetis Island Community Association / signage)
TCA/IWG (Thetis Community Assembly/Indigenous Working Group)
with Bill & Ann Dickie.

Supported by:
TIPA (Thetis Island Parents Association)
TIID (Thetis Island Improvement District)
TICF (Thetis Island Community Fund)
CCR (Community Climate Resilience)
FAC (Ferry Advisory Committee)
St. Margaret’s Cemetery Board

Abandoned Vehicle On Pilkey Point Road

The abandoned vehicle in front of Lot 148 on Pilkey Point that has cones around; it will be towed soon. The RCMP, Emcon, and TIVFD have been aware of it since early Wednesday morning, and it is being dealt with.

We appreciate the care and caution you are taking on all of our winding roads with kids, bikes, deer, dogs, chickens, sometimes sheep, walkers, and possibly broke-down vehicles around the next bend. Thank you for your patience and leave a little earlier so you aren’t surprised by what you find around the corner.

Weekend Fire Weather Forecast

Thurs-Fri: Today, temperatures return to seasonal, but it remains dry. Tonight, we expect fair to good overnight RH recoveries with light to moderate outflow winds.

Friday, some instability moves over the fire centre as a short-wave trough moves across CoFC through the day which has the potential to develop some thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Little moisture will accompany this feature bringing the possibility of dry lightning in the upper elevations inland on Vancouver Island and from the North Coast through the Fraser Zone on the mainland.

Sat-Mon: Temperatures stay seasonal through the weekend without any notable change in wind strength or flow. Consistent warm and dry conditions continue.
