Don’t miss the event of the summer! Co- hosted by TICA and the Thetis Island Community Fund, the 2014 Soiree offers a Moroccan-inspired menu, Gypsy King-style music by Barra, and live performances by our own Gypsy Dancers of the Salish Sea.

Alcoholics Anonymous

Thetis Island Discussion Group meets every Monday night at 6pm in the library at Forbes Hall. We have 5 members who attend on a regular basis and fellow AA members from other AA groups in the Cowichan Valley frequently attend our meetings.

Anyone who has a desire to stop drinking is welcome to attend.

July 1st Pancake Day

Cafe TICA will cook breakfast for you.

Along with Pancakes, Bacon, and fresh fruit we are adding Scrambled Eggs, Bacon and more Fresh Fruit to the menu.

Bread Orders

It is my pleasure to announce that I am now taking orders for my home baked sourdough bread.

Here is your choice of loaves:

- French country sourdough: $4.00

- Cowichan Red sourdough (made from a locally grown & stone ground red wheat): $4.50

- Poppy seed sourdough braid: $5.00

All breads are hand crafted using flours from organically grown grain.

Next week bread will be available on Thursday, July 3rd and Saturday, July 5th. As sourdough is a time-based process, I require a 48-hour notice on all orders. 

There will be limited availability so make sure you place your order in time!

Last weekend we had a wonderful retirement celebration for Arlene Kasting. After we cleaned up we found two empty dishes that need to find their way back home.

1. A ceramic pie dish with blue edging and vine pattern about 10" diameter

2. A glass casserole dish 7x11"

Rainfall Data

This note is a follow up to my April rainfall summary. By way of background, I have been keeping track of rainfall (as many other folks on the Island do as well) at our property on Foster Point Road for over 5 years.  All readings are in millimetres (mm), and include an estimate for snow.  This month for comparison purposes, I have included the yearly totals for Victoria Airport. I will do another summary at the end of the third quarter (September).

Batty Bat Night Invitation

In conjunction with ThINC's first nature day camp for kids, BC Bat specialist Trudy Chatwin is offering an evening of learning about and monitoring Thetis Island bats for the whole community on Tuesday, July 8th.

The exact details are still be finalized, but the event will most likely occur at the Meadow Valley Pond on Lakeview Rd around twilight.  

This will be an exciting, hands on, place-based learning adventure and we hope you can join the fun!  I can't help but envision counting bats with the Count on Sesame Street. Batty, batty, batty, Bats!
