This weekend, a ridge of high pressure will build in from the Pacific over the province. This will provide a warming and drying trend for four to five days, with peak heat and drying Saturday through Monday. The Coastal Fire Centre can expect stable and calm conditions overall with temperatures rising 8 to 10 degrees by Sunday. Minimum relative humidity values will fall into the high teens and low twenties for most of Vancouver Island and the southern zones. The ridge will be at its strongest over this weekend, and temperatures on Vancouver Island and the southern zones will be in the high 20s and low 30s. The ridge will start to weaken and move South beginning Tuesday.
The South Coast and Vancouver Island show more widespread warmth during this period. This trend with coincide with increased tourism related to summer travel, along with the commencement of the World Cup, and the coming summer solstice (shorter nights, less overnight cooling).
Category 1 (campfires) are currently permitted within the Coastal Fire Centre's jurisdiction. However, we would like to underscore our collective responsibility to prevent human‑caused wildfires. Be responsible with campfire use: don't leave your fire unattended; do not burn in windy conditions; obey any local bylaws in your area; and prior to leaving the area, you must fully extinguish your campfire until cool to the touch.
Category 2 and Category 3 open fires remain prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction, in addition to select equipment and activities.
