Bicycle Caution

The loose gravel that remains on some Thetis roads can prove treacherous for cyclists. It has already resulted in one serious fall and some complaints, including from drivers. Cyclists should be extra careful when cornering.

Fire Weather Forecast from Coastal Fire Centre

Thurs-Sat: A ridge of high pressure has moved over the province. Temperatures throughout the Coastal Fire Centre will rise to above normal with mid 20s to low 30s north to south. Thursday afternoon and evening, weak thunderstorms could develop with a risk of wet lightning in areas of Vancouver Island, north Cascades, Manning and Tweedsmuir Parks. The risk is low.

CONFIDENCE/DISCUSSION: High confidence with the overall pattern, lower confidence on the thunderstorms/lightning. The fire risk will build through today and Friday. Subsides starting Saturday.

Sun-Mon of next week: Cooler and more unstable conditions are expected for the end of the weekend and start of the week, thanks to a low-pressure system moving from the Gulf of Alaska.

Do you have fresh Grass Clippings?

We could use some fresh grass clippings to mulch our onion beds.

If you have a pile or plan on making a pile, we'd love to come and collect it.

Thanks

Temporary No Parking by Ferry

Please do not park on the west side (water side) parking for the ferry from Friday evening to Saturday afternoon.  The owners of Lot 1 will be falling some overhanging trees for safety reasons on Saturday.  The area will be coned off on Friday evening.
Many people don’t know that the parking on that side is actually on private property and the owners want to make sure the area is safe.
Please park your vehicles on the other side of the road or on Vivian Place.

2025 Thetis Island Calendar

It’s not even halfway through 2024 and we’re already thinking about a 2025 follow-up to this year’s beautiful Thetis Island Calendar.

Browse through photos you’ve taken in the past; take some more through the summer! We will be doing a “Thetis through the Seasons” calendar for 2025 and are excited to see some beautiful images, once again.

You can start sending them as soon as you like, we’ll hold them in a file until early fall when we will sort through them, finding the special 12+ to create 2025’s calendar.

Images to be sent to info@forbeshall.ca, 1 MB or larger.

We're looking forward to seeing what Islanders have been snapping!

Fruit Recovery & Processing Project

Hello,

We are looking at bringing together interested fruit pickers and matching them up with residents with unpicked or excess fruit.

A second stage would be to preserve the fruit and explore different methods of preservation (ie: canning, freezing and dehydration).

If possible, we would set up teaching events for people to learn how to preserve safely and efficiently. We would look to create a method to share the end product with homeowners that provided the fruit.

We are still at the exploration stages but will need to get started soon for this year's harvest season.

If you are interested, please contact me or Jim Moloney. We will need to organize a planning meeting in the near future to work out the details.

Thanks,

David Reay, davidreay@telus.net
