Monday, June 24, 2024 at 7:21AM We'll be showing game seven here at Thetis Island Pub today (Go Oilers!), but our debit machines have not been working this week and we will be CASH ONLY until we get replacements in. The ATM in the store has been working.
Sorry for the inconvenience!
Puck drops at 5:00. Hope to see you then!

Sunday, June 23, 2024 at 3:45PM I am recuperating from knee surgery so have been off work and will be for a few more weeks. My understanding is that the sweeper is being made available to us Monday and Tuesday! So, watch for it, I will get him to start on Moore hill, heading north!
Cheers,
Joe Lange
Sunday, June 23, 2024 at 3:44PM This is just a heads-up that Pioneer Pacific Camp has sent us their summer camp schedule, and the busy ferry schedule at https://www.thetisisland.net/ferry/current-combined-busy.pdf has been updated to reflect the extra traffic.

Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 7:58AM Somehow kid’s stuff seems to multiply like magic. Before your next trip to the thrift store, we are going to have a Thetis Island kid’s stuff exchange! Perfect opportunity to refresh toys or stock up for grandkids visiting.
Bring your clean and (at least somewhat) functional toys, baby gear, sports equipment or anything else to the yellow farm stand on Mission road across from the Community Center on Friday, July 19th or in the morning on the 20th. We will leave everything out until Sunday evening and anything left after the weekend will be brought to the thrift stores.
You have lots of time to box and sort! So keep the dates in mind and go through your closets and we’ll see you in July!

Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 7:57AM Norm Kasting, a member of the TIVFD, published an excellent article in the latest issue of The Quarterly titled, “Should I Call 9-1-1 ?” . For those of you who unfortunately don’t receive The Quarterly magazine, published by TICA, this is a reminder that by calling 911 early you will get the trained volunteers arriving at the issue sooner.
Recently we had a question about an alarm sounding at the neighbours’ house where no one was at home. They wandered over, looked in windows, saw nothing amiss, and left. They were able to contact the neighbours the next day, but also wondered if they should have done something differently.
The answer is a resounding YES! There are many reasons a fire/smoke alarm might go off unexpectedly and the luckiest reason is that the alarm malfunctioned. But the other reasons are more serious and could have dire consequences and quite often there will be no indication from the outside of a building as to what is happening inside. Please call 911 if you hear an alarm going off in a house. The TIVFD trains for all types of emergency events including “alarms activated”.
Please don’t hesitate to call 911. The TIVFD would very much rather come out early to what turns out to be a minor event or a false alarm instead of an event that has already become a serious emergency response.

Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 7:56AM I would like to second Dave Steen’s recent post. It is basically a plea for caution on the part of cyclists, drivers, and walkers on Thetis roads due to the excessive use of cover gravel.
In addition, I would like to register a query about why the excess gravel deposits (not many but still dangerous) were not swept off the roads soon after tarring was completed, and the tar hardened. Safety seems reason enough for such excess gravel removal. To whom would I send such a query so that it might initiate some action?
