Reminder from Coastal Fire Centre

The Province shut down open burning for Category 2 and 3 fires (yard waste/burn piles) last month (May 17th) in the Coastal Fire Centre region.

Also prohibited are the activities listed below (Wildfire Act, Section 12):

  • Fireworks;
  • Sky Lanterns;
  • Binary Exploding Targets;
  • Burn Barrels or Burn Cages of any size or description; and
  • Air Curtain Burners.

Campfires with permits from the TIVFD are still being allowed until June 30th. We will be assessing the fire danger for campfires in July at that time.

If you want to be really safe and enjoy a campfire atmosphere during a complete shutdown this summer, it’s a great idea to purchase a CSA Approved campfire appliance that uses propane. No smoke, no embers, no sparks, and you can even char your marshmallows on them. A propane campfire appliance does not need a campfire permit.

Thetis Infrastructure Task Group - Public Meeting at Forbes Hall: 7 pm Tuesday, July 2nd

The Thetis Infrastructure Task Group is made up of TIRRA (Thetis Island Residents and Ratepayers Association – Solid Waste Yard), TIPC (Thetis Island Port Commission – Community Dock & Boat Launch), TIID (Thetis Island Improvement District – TIVFD/Firehall) and TICA(Thetis Island Community Association – Forbes Hall Community Centre).

For the past 6 months our group has been working with the CVRD on their funding, planning, and assistive work for Thetis Island. Each year Thetis Island pays about 1/3 of Area G’s taxes, yet we only make up 1/4 of the population. Most funding goes to services Thetis Island residents rarely access.

We would like to hear from the community. Property Tax Day is July 2nd and we thought it appropriate to hold the meeting on this date.

There will be brief introduction statements by each of the four groups, and a 10-minute financial presentation by Paul Duncan before we open the floor to you. All concerns, questions and ideas will be recorded for use in our future meetings with the CVRD.

Looking forward to seeing you!

Please Loan me (very-short-term) a Mouse/Keyboard….

So, in a moment of complete brain melt, I accidently disconnected my Bluetooth on my Mac desktop... Promptly losing my ability to turn it back on with my Bluetooth keyboard/mouse. (Insert facepalm here).

Does anyone have a wired mouse/keyboard I could borrow and bring right back?

You get to meet a genius in the exchange!!😂

Please text Jess @ 2503273860 if you are feeling like being my hero!

Wanted: Plants

Hello Neighbours,

We’re planting a new garden and looking to get some more plants. Before I go across, thought I’d check and see if anyone here has some they’d like to part with. Happy to dig them up ourselves too!

Mostly interested in perennials and shrubs but will check out just about anything!

For Sale

Antique Windsor style wooden chair

Not only a very comfortable place to sit but it exudes Cottage core charm through its cream colouring, eye catching red pinstripe cushions, and unique elements such as the spindles and curved sides. The wide stance and slightly reclined back make this chair very comfortable and inviting. Would be a wonderful addition for a front entryway, study, or sitting room. Incredibly sturdy and measuring 30” wide, 23” deep, and 35” tall. Asking $250.

Vintage brass napkin rings

15 pieces. 3 different styles but go together exquisitely. Selling altogether and including a wooden box holder. These brass napkin rings would elevate any table setting. Asking $20.

Four Glass Carboys

Solid glass, beautiful decor. Have used mine for eye catching centre pieces at large events or to display dried pampas grass. Two Carboys are 20” tall, one is smooth glass while other has some raised detailing. Two Carboys are slightly shorter at 17” tall and both have raised detailing. Beautiful additions for a backyard, patio, or in the home.

Asking $25/each for the large Carboys and $20/each for the smaller pieces.

Photos of all items available via text.
