Friday, September 22, 2023 at 6:32AM I am wondering if anyone on Thetis would rent their flat deck trailer for Saturday. As my wife is wanting to pick up hay bales in Saanich, and we would return it to you the same day.
Please call Jesse at (250) 588-3369.
Friday, September 22, 2023 at 6:31AM Still available: trunk-mount bike carrier: Fits a variety of cars using adjustable tension straps. (Note: this is not a hitch type carrier.) In excellent condition, but no longer needed as have purchased a new bike that's over the 35 lb. weight limit.
Photo of it on request. A really great deal at only $20.

Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 8:11PM Prescribed Burn planned for Rocky Point near Victoria
Correction: The Information Bulletin released earlier this afternoon noted that this prescribed burn was taking place at the Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt. The correct location is the Canadian Forces Base, Rocky Point. Please see the revised bulletin below:
PARKSVILLE – The BC Wildfire Service will be supporting the Department of National Defence in conducting a prescribed burn covering 50 hectares on the Canadian Forces Base, Rocky Point.
The burn site is 13 km Southeast of Sooke on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. Smoke may be visible to residents in Victoria and surrounding communities.
The exact timing of this burn will depend on weather and site conditions, but it could begin as early as Friday, September 22, 2023. Burning will proceed if conditions are suitable and allow for smoke dispersal during burn operations, though light smoke may linger in the following days.
The goal of this prescribed burn is to mitigate wildfire risks, maintain open natural landscapes for military training, and protect and restore rare Garry Oak ecosystems which support a large number of species at risk. Key goals are to mimic naturally occurring ground fires, reduce the accumulations of dead and combustible material, and decrease the risk of future catastrophic wildfires in the area.
Prescribed burns on this property have been undertaken since 2017, and are undertaken in partnership with BC Wildfire Services, Natural Resources Canada, Parks Canada and the Department of National Defence.
Fire is a normal and natural process in many of B.C.’s ecosystems. The BC Wildfire Service works regularly with land managers to undertake fuel management activities (including the use of prescribed burns), to help reduce the severity of future wildfires and related threats to communities.

Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 8:10PM The 1/4 “ of rain last night allows us to return to
HIGH HAZARD RATING EARLY SHIFT
With rain forecast for Saturday, Sunday and Monday, perhaps we will soon drop to MODERATE and will have no forest activity restrictions other than open burning.

Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 8:08PM Mary and Matt are cancelling ping pong for this Thursday night.

Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 8:08PM There was a good response to my previous e-spokes from numerous islanders. I asked those interested parties to contact GFL Chemainus directly to be put on a list so that we can move forward. After a phone call with GFL Chemainus today, I was told that no one had signed on and that anyone wishing for a pump out to call directly at tel: 250-246-3216.
It would seem there are enough Thetis customers to make this happen.

Mohamed (Mo) Osman, the pharmacist from Rexall on Esplanade in Chemainus, has kindly agreed to come to Thetis on Sept 30th and give Tetanus and/or Shingles vaccines.
You are eligible for a tetanus booster if your last shot was 5 to 10 years ago. Tetanus is covered by BC Medical Services.
You are eligible for the Shingles vaccine (which is usually not covered by BC Medical Services) if:
1. You have never had the vaccine.
2. You had the older version of the vaccine (it was a one dose vaccine).
If you have had shingles, you may still be eligible for the vaccine - talk to Mo when you call. Note the Shingles vaccine is now a two-dose vaccine with the second dose given 2 - 6 months after the first.
TO REGISTER: Call Mo at 250 246 2151 with your PHN number to sign up, OR you can email him at 7114rx@rexall.ca .
If you have any questions including whether you are eligible for these vaccines, please direct them to Mo.
