Afghani Refugee

There is a group in Chemainus that is working towards bringing an Afghani refugee (her name is Friba, aged 30) to the community. She is a visible minority (of the Hazaras, who are targeted by the Taliban).
Friba's entry has already been approved by the Canadian government and the group has already secured a place for her to live in Saltair, as well as a job lined up for her at The Owl's Nest in Chemainus. They are reaching out to the wider community to help them meet the government's required fee for processing her immigration process.

If you are able to help with a donation, or for more information, please be in touch with the group via this email address: mwimmer@bc.anglican.ca

Reminder: Family Fun Day this Saturday!

Hello Islanders,

Family Fun Day is just days away! The fun begins this Saturday, August 12th at Forbes Hall. Races, water balloons, tug o war will start at 11:00 in the school field for kids and parents. BBQ lunch will be a combo of a hamburger, drink, ice cream and popcorn all for $10!

Bring your loonies and toonies for the water closet/dunk tank! Always a favourite! And you may want to bring towels and a change of clothes for the kid's wading pool as well as the dunk tank!

Following lunch, carnival games 'Island style', will be happening in the tennis court and we will wrap up around 3 pm.
Looking forward to seeing you there!

Forbes Hall: Multi-Use Sports Court

The newly resurfaced Sports Court is ready for Thetis Islanders of all ages to come and try it out!

We look forward to seeing young and old (and all those in-between) participating in many activities: basketball, tennis, learning to ride a bike, pickleball, street hockey or court soccer (practise on net at one end during the months that the tennis net is up), skateboarding, roller or inline skating, dog training and probably more!

TICA thanks Benji Pegg for his help in sorting the equipment, most will continue to be used. For those who might be interested in two old tennis nets, they are on the ground near the court. If you can use them, please take them away!

The Thetis Island Community Association is committed to providing Forbes Hall Community Centre as an inclusive space for all islanders.

Thanks,

Ann Dickie

President, TICA

Forbes Hall Health Services: Our Health, Our Community Survey

Forbes Hall Health Services Group is joining with Our Cowichan Communities Health Network sharing this survey to ensure that our Thetis community is included. Please take the time to fill out the survey, our target is for a minimum of 100 responses over a broad age range, full-time and part-time residents are encouraged to participate.

Spread the word! Island Health and Our Cowichan Communities Health Network have launched the Our Health, Our Community survey. Complete the survey today.

Our Cowichan Communities Health Network, in partnership with Island Health, is elated to announce that the much-anticipated Our Health, Our Community online survey is live and ready for public participation.

Click here to take the surveyhttps://redcap.viha.ca/redcap/surveys/?s=99ATWT4N7FXDYXA8

The goal of this survey is to capture local data on the health and well-being of Cowichan Valley residents to help shape regional programs, services, and policies. Survey participants will be asked about their overall health and life in the Cowichan Valley (including Thetis Island), and for feedback on their access to local health and community services.

A high level of participation will help generate the quality data our region requires to respond to demographic shifts and changing health and community needs.

Thanks for your participation,
