Goosey Gander Shop: Open this Weekend

Thank you as always to those who have come by for a visit and also those who have brought in such interesting and useful items for sale. As of this week the Shop has 53 registered Vendors! 90% of the Vendors are Thetis people, with only three off Islanders, two of which are my sisters-in-law :)

If there is enough interest, I hope to keep the Shop open through the Fall. And if you haven’t come by yet, and feel like taking a look, the hours this weekend are Saturday 10 to 4 and Sunday Noon to 4.

Staying in HIGH HAZARD

The weather gods did not smile on us and we are still in HIGH HAZARD for the weekend, and perhaps beyond.

High Hazard Activities *chainsawing, mowing, etc.) must cease by 1 pm and a 2 hour fire watch posted ceasing work. Outdoor burning and solid fuel campfires are still prohibited.

We are also still in Stage 5 for drought conditions (highest stage). This morning before 7 am there was a bush fire near Duncan that 4 halls were called out to extinguish. Please continue to be vigilant.

Thanks to all for your cooperation.

TI Elementary School Volunteers Needed

It's that time of year again! Thetis Island Elementary School is looking for volunteers in the community to read with our youngest students. If you are interested and available Tuesdays and/or Thursdays, from 12:45 to 1:15, please email the teacher (Sarah Lucchetti): slucchetti@sd79.bc.ca.

No experience is necessary and you do not need to commit to the whole year. We hope to start before the end of September.

Thank you,
TIES Staff

Looking for Thetis Island Photos!

Forbes Hall Community Centre – Fall Fundraiser
A calendar showing islanders' favourites spots and views of Thetis is being created, and your photos are wanted!
Do you have a special photo that says “Thetis” to you? A view you wake up to, a hidden gem you walk to, or a place where you sit and contemplate life, or a view that stopped you in your tracks? A series of 12 photos will be made into a calendar for a Fall Fundraiser for Forbes Hall.
A range of photos will be chosen, to show Thetis off in all her seasons. Please send in a photo you’d like to share with others and help to raise funds for Forbes Hall. The calendar will make a great gift for family and friends.
Please provide the month, year and location the photo was taken, as well as your name as photographer.
Do not submit photos of identifiable people. By sending in a photo you permit TICA to edit as needed and use the image for the calendar with net proceeds going to TICA / Forbes Hall Community Centre.
Send photos to info@forbeshall.ca if you’d like to help us out with this project. All submissions received by September 30th will be considered.

Irresponsible Driving

Whoever the two irresponsible guys who were riding their motorcycle at around 50 mph in our lane at the south end of the harbour on Pilkey Point causing us to swerve onto the shoulder with you clipping the side of our truck at 3:50pm September 7th you need to grow up. An adult will pull over to exchange paperwork or at least apologize for upsetting my wife. It's your problem driving without insurance but if I were ten years older my reflexes might not have been as sharp allowing me to get off the road as far as I did. Carrying beer and riding like a fool is an accident looking to happen.

I'm more concerned about your unsafe driving possibly hitting someone walking or riding a bike killing them. IMO you were only a second before having a head on and going into intensive care or a funeral parlor leaving your family behind.

The damage to our truck should be reported to the RCMP and still might but upsetting my wife really pisses me off. Grow up and act like an adult instead of a child.
