TICA Year End Letter / Gentle Reminder

To all members of the Thetis Island Community,

As 2022 nears its end, we are writing to ask for your financial support for the Forbes Hall Expansion Project, by reaching out to those who do year-end gift-giving, as well as those who would like to continue with their previous generosity.  The need remains to raise money for TICA to be debt free by early 2024.

We recognize with gratitude that many of you have already generously supported the project, perhaps numerous times, since the expansion planning began in 2016. The TICA Board is humbled by that generosity and knows that each of those gifts was given with a sense of pride in, and commitment to, the Thetis Island Community.  As well, many of you have volunteered to work on the project or with fundraising events, helping tremendously not only with initial cost-savings but with the continuing task of fundraising. The amazing show of community participation at events and activities held in the busy hall has been rewarding to witness.

We also recognize the important contribution of the Local Lenders, whose financial support of loans totaling $335,000.00 enabled the completion of the project in 2021 - saving us untold dollars and time before the dramatic rise in building costs and avoiding delays caused by the ongoing supply chain issues.

The generosity of our Community has continued through 2022 with donations and pledges of more than $100,000. All of which will be used to help repay the debt.

Our goal now is to continue raising the funds needed to avoid large commercial mortgage fees and unpredictable interest rates when the loans mature. We are asking for your financial support, through either donations or pledges, to help us with this debt repayment so as to limit any borrowing fees TICA may have to take on in 2024.

Link to this letter and the attached donation/pledge form. All donations must be received by midnight December 31, 2022 in order to receive a tax receipt for 2022.  E-transfers are encouraged.

Our sincere gratitude to the Thetis Island Community for the support given to this remarkable project, which has provided such a beautiful place to serve our community for years to come.

Sincerely,

Ann Dickie

Pollinator-Friendly Resolutions for the New Year

1) I will plant native flowers, grasses, shrubs and trees in my yard and garden, promote the use of native plants to other gardeners in my area, and collect native seed from my garden to share with neighbours.

2) I will provide food for pollinators all year by having spring, summer, and fall blooming plants in my garden and yard.

3) I will leave leaf litter, stems, twigs and logs in my garden for nesting bees and for butterflies to lay their eggs and overwinter.

4) I will take steps to reduce or eliminate pesticide use on areas within my control.

5) I will learn about invasive plants and do what I can to manage or eliminate them from my local landscape.

6) I will make environmentally-friendly decisions to reduce my carbon footprint in order to help improve pollinator health and habitat quality.

7) I will support pollinator-friendly farmers by buying local organic or low-spray produce.

8) I will support my local beekeepers by buying local bee products like raw honey.

9) I will volunteer to plant a pollinator garden in my community, and take part in local citizen science initiatives.

10) I will continue supporting pollinator conservation organizations through my donations.
