Saturday, August 26th: Health Talk – Dealing with Extreme Heat and Smoke

As our summer temperatures rise and wildfires increase, heat and smoke have become major health concerns for Thetis Islanders.

On Saturday, August 26th Dr. Shannon Waters, medical health officer for the Cowichan Valley Region, will be coming to Forbes Hall to speak on the health effects of heat and smoke and how we as a community can respond to these extreme events.

Morning talk, followed by a hosted BBQ lunch. Start time to be announced.

For more information, please contact David Reay 778--899-3216 davidreay@telus.net

Funded through Island Health’s Community Wellness Grant received by Forbes Hall Health Services Group/TICA in partnership with ThINC and SPU.

Compassionate Friends

Hello Islanders,

I am looking to connect with other parents, grandparents, siblings who grieve the loss of a loved one (any age, any cause). My hope is that we could build a small private support group along the model of the international organization Compassionate Friends (www.tcfcanada.net). If you are interested, please send me an email or text.

Being Polite to Others and On Time for Seair Float Plane

Several of frequent users of Seair were discussing with several Seair pilots how frustrated we are with the number of Thetis islanders that do not get to the float plane on time.

( as is actually required by your tickets).

Seair agreements state 30 minutes before flights , but in reality they expect everyone to be there at least 15/18 minutes before flights from small islands. At times they need to leave a bit early due to weather / wind concerns or other factors, such as multistep flights etc.

I am pretty appalled by how frequently people here are late for the flight, and keep the pilot and other passengers waiting.

Today 2 groups showed up about 5 minutes before to the parking lot. Making the pilot that was deliberately early and a large group wait for them.

I have had to wait for large groups showing up 10 minutes late for flights as well.

I am hoping we all could be more polite to each other and the Pilots.

Can someone pass this on to the 2 bible camps to remind their guests to be there at least 15 minutes before?
