Combined Vaccine Clinic Nov. 2nd at Forbes Hall

There will be a combined COVID-19 and flu vaccine clinic at Forbes Hall Nov 2 from 10 - 3:45.  This will be for everyone 6 months and older.

You will receive an invitation for either vaccines and you will need to register. (yes this year you will  be invited for the flu vaccine)  If you have not received an invitation by Oct 24th please email Tessa.Mackinnon@islandhealth.ca or call the Provincial Call center at 1-833-838-2323 to register.

The recommendation is that you receive a COVID booster at least six months after your last dose. If you wish to receive a fall booster sooner, while Island Health is visiting Thetis Island, you may be eligible as long as it has been 3 months since your last dose. Please call the provincial booking line to determine your eligibility: 1-833-838-2323. If you’ve had a COVID infection, it is recommended that you wait 3-6 months before receiving a booster.

Further information will be coming regarding the type of COVID booster vaccine. It will be the bivalent one, but we are unsure whether it will be Moderna, Pfizer or either.

Any questions please email fmsutter@shaw.ca

Deadline for the Winter Quarterly

The dead-ish line for Quarterly articles, ads, notices etc. is November 10th, but as always, if there is a story coming that can't quite make it in that time frame, just let us know so we can leave room.  We'll negotiate timing.  But it's a real help to have most things in before that.  Printing takes longer than it used to. Please send items to quarterly@thetisisland.net , but if no-one has responded within a day or two, check with veronicashelford@gmail.com  - it may have gone AWOL.  If you have any images to send, please make sure they are the "original size", not downsized for emailing.

Thank you!

SOAS Fundraiser: Homegrown

Just for clarification, HOMEGROWN  is the name of the fundraiser for School Orchards Africa (SOAS) which will be held at Forbes Hall on Nov. 4th

It will consist of a cash bar, and potluck dinner with local entertainment to follow. Although there is no charge at the door, we do require you to get a 'ticket' by registering online or by phoning us at 246-2184.

It is a fundraiser, and we hope you get "Bang for your Buck". Your donations make the project possible. Join us for a fun evening.

Free Shasta Daisy Seeds

Anyone looking to fill in a corner of their property or create a field full of daisies? Just finished dead heading my Shasta daisies.  Have two big pails of seed heads.  These are so easy to grow and are drought tolerant.  I never water them. They love to reseed, so you need a sunny spot that you don’t mind them taking over. Several varieties growing between 1-3 feet tall

If you want a pail or two, they’re free for the taking

Post Office Updates

Election day Oct 15, Saturday

Sometime between 1000-1400 the postmaster will be gone to vote.

Parcels:

Regular parcel post can be up to 6 weeks before arrival.

Xpress post states 8 days add 2 days to get to Thetis and another 2 days for general fudge factor.  Therefore 14 days.

Etiquette:

The post office is not run by Canada Post. It is a postal outlet that Thetis Island Marina is good enough to sponsor. It is not a money winning proposition.  This enables us to do things such as deliver on island letters without postage and juggle PO boxes to fit our needs (still working on getting more).  Without post masters (in this this case Zola and Fred) you  will be picking your mail up in Chemainus.

I am not sure whether it is the weather or the full moon.  But the level of rudeness has increased significantly to where Zola has experienced racist comments.  ENOUGH.

We are new to the job and doing well, in my opinion, all things considered. so, moving forward:

We don t care if you got an email that states your parcel is here.  If we do not have it we do not have it.  Refer above.  If it is beyond those time frames then by all means we will chase it.

If you do not have a tag we will not be looking for your parcel.

If you want somebody else to pick up your parcels give us a signed statement.

We do not know everyone on the island ... yet.  So if we do not know you we will be asking for ID.  Having said this Zola and Fred do have a number of you in the memory banks but just a heads up to infrequent visitors.

But those of you who do not like our service and are choosing to complain to the PO and Thetis Island Marina just remember you can lose the PO if it becomes too big a headache.

For the 99 percent of you who have been so supportive my apologies but for the 1 percent creating the flack they need to understand the consequences of their behaviour.

FRED
