A Message from Trustee-elect Hunter

A genuine and heartfelt thank you for everyone's vote on Saturday.

I am keen to jump back into the fray on your behalf.

I would like to thank Doug Fenton and Emily McIvor for their participation in the campaign process and wish them all the best in their future endeavors.

I would also like to congratulate Peter Luckham on yet another decisive win.

I was especially encouraged by his comments in yesterday's espokes.

Each of you will now have the opportunity to speak out about what YOU believe the Trust should focus on and, at the risk of sounding trite, I will add:

"Together we CAN make a difference"

With sincere thanks,

Ken Hunter

Grateful for the Opportunity to Work on Your Behalf

Hello Thetis Islanders,

Well, Saturday didn't turn out as many had hoped. So I wanted to express how grateful I have served you for the past 4-year term. The first two years involved a steep learning curve, and the workload was sometimes demanding (for the entire 4yrs). But, worth every minute (less the fake news bulletins). Some many unique opportunities to explore what is possible, what fits where and with what and why. Including an in-depth review of the Islands Trust Act (https://islandstrust.bc.ca/about-us/islands-trust-act/) was such a privilege.

I will miss working with Islands Trust Conservancy as a board member. Seeing how conserving land in a strategic and informed fashion was intriguing. The generosity of those who supported the ITC was surreal, and this is all a unique aspect of the Islands Trust Act (1974).

It will be up to all of us to attend the Thetis LTC meetings, now held again at Forbes Hall (by zoom or in person). Something that has grown in its level of efficacy is our opportunity to speak about ideas, local projects, or individuals on a mission to change something by utilizing the Town Hall, Delegations &/or written correspondence to communicate with the Thetis Local Trust Committee. I want to wish your new local trustees are Peter Luckham and Ken Hunter, all the best with this terms work, as there is plenty to get done, significant issues to be considered.

The level of support for not being successful is humbling. You are all fantastic people, and I am looking forward to seeing or out and about on Thetis.

Again, Huy ch q'a siem,

Doug Fenton

For Sale: 4 young, healthy Ewes

4 lovely, 2.5-year-old ewes for sale. Proven mothers (all had twins this spring) and easy to care for.
Keep the blackberry at bay, the grass down and brighten your day with these sweet animals.

We really enjoyed having these sheep and would love to keep them but with another (human) baby on the way, we’re simplifying.

Call or text for more details or to come meet them (and their lambs).

Post Office and the Marina’s Quiet Generosity

Thank you, Fred, for sharing the reality of our postal service, I was either unaware it was provided by the marina or had forgotten.

Therefore, our company, Full Spectrum Distributors, a division of Lotusland Industries, will be providing the equipment necessary to produce enough power to allow the Marina including the Post office, to safely shut down all of their systems. Just like a UPS does for your computer. So, we are perfectly clear, this is a service we are proving, not 'equipment' as such. It will be a similar size to the one in a van conversion RV would use.

As many of you know I am no longer physically capable of installing this system. Therefore, I need a person to volunteer a few hours of their time to put up the panels... assuming they would go on the roof. I have a safety harness to use.

Secondly, I need an electrician to install the inverter/charger/auto switch all in one very near the panel and connect the six wires. Lastly, someone to carry the light, by comparison to golf batteries, to its chosen site and I'll hook up the two wires. No off gassing, no corrosion, no maintenance for 30+ years, Lithium Iron Phosphate.

Please email David,  littleislander@protonmail.com.

Happy to do my bit for the community and reduce the Marina's cost while backing up their power system.

Regards,

David

Thank You from "Trustee Luckham"

Thank you Thetis Island for your support to continue working on your behalf at the Islands Trust.

I want to thank Doug Fenton for his service over the last 4 years, his strong background in environmental science and support for working with First Nations was greatly appreciated by myself and many others.

Congrats to Emily McIvor for a strong campaign effort garnering good community support.

Finally Congrats to Ken Hunter returning from a term off, looking forward to working with him at the Trust table.

Looking ahead to quote Ken, "My people want change", let’s find out what change looks like and implement what is important for Islanders. I would like to hold a workshop early in the term that focuses on this topic to get us off in the right direction.

Just so you know I will be standing again for a seat at the Executive table where a voice from Thetis can be heard as Trust Council determines it's direction for the next 4 years.

All the best to everyone and Thank you.

Peter Luckham,

Trustee
