Monday, May 29, 2023 at 7:56AM Good Morning -
Our peonies are in full bloom and we can’t keep up and we would love for the island to be able to enjoy a piece of it!
We’ll have a stand at the end of our driveway at 288 Forbes Rd starting at 9:30am until 4pm on Monday May 29th. First come first serve.
$2.00 a stem - please build your own bouquet and enjoy!
Thanks,
The Kastings

Monday, May 29, 2023 at 7:54AM Local dairy and organic true grain baking orders due Monday by 5pm please.
We haven't decided what will be baked or made yet this week but will update the order form soon!
Kiosk will be stocked with asparagus, eggs, salad greens and herbs on Wednesday by 10am.
Both marinas will be restocked on Thursday evening.
MULCH HAY:
Our friends on Salt Spring Island have about 1000 bales of unsprayed, naturally grown mulch hay available for $5/bale.
It's likely there could be seed in the hay. For us, we don't mind as we just use this to cover any bare ground or new growing plots, so anything that sprouts is easily knocked down and just becomes a cover crop again.
We are thinking of renting a larger truck and filling it up with a few hundred bales if anyone else is interested in a larger amount and wants to share the truck, fuel and ferry costs.
Let us know if you are interested or have any questions for the hay farmer.
ORGANIC BLUEBERRIES:
Thank you everyone for your orders. As a group we have ordered over 600 lbs of organic berries which is very helpful to the farmers. They are very appreciative of our support.
With thanks,
Jollity Farm

Sunday, May 28, 2023 at 7:33AM All three Fire Weather Stations around us (North Cowichan, Cedar & Salt Spring) are now reporting in at fire danger class 4. We have also moved up to HIGH DANGER CLASS (4) starting on Saturday. This means that, starting on Monday, High Hazard Activities in or near the forest must be completed by 1 pm. Please stop your chainsawing, milling, mowing, etc. by 1 o’clock and post a fire watch (look for puffs of smoke) for an hour after you quit work.
We will keep you posted on our website, ESPOKES, and the community blog when the danger class changes again. The Fire Department Information Board by the ferry will also show the fire hazard rating.
Thank you.

Sunday, May 28, 2023 at 7:32AM Hi, I'm looking to get a second-hand car and was wondering if anyone on the island has any leads - I've got a limited budget, so I'm hoping to buy at a relatively low price, but I'd also be interested in renting if that works out better. Been looking on Facebook marketplace and Autotrader, but no luck yet.
I'm working for Poirier Custom Homes, and I'm on the island until sometime in September.
Thanks

Friday, May 26, 2023 at 8:06AM Through the generosity of Meadow Valley Strata, a temporary diversion has been created to get around the flooded area on the Kenwood end of the Lawrence Trail. There are signs indicating where the diversions are, and the trail is flagged. Please use the detour only and do not otherwise trespass on private property.
