Missing Cat from Forbes Road

Our cat Misha has not come home for over a week. He is a large tabby, fixed male, very friendly, and happy to make you believe he's starving. His cat sister really misses her brother - they lost their mother at just 6 weeks, so they are truly bonded.

Please let us know if you see him, as we miss him

Soup’s On Start Up Meeting & Orientation: Monday, September 19th 1:00 pm

We encourage all those who volunteer at “Soup’s On” and other Food Service Events, as well as those who would like to join this energetic and fun team, to attend this year’s “Soup’s On” Start Up Meeting, which will also include information for those who want to help with other Food & Event Services.

All sorts of skills are looked for – cooks, prep cooks, servers, dishwashers, set-up, take-down and helping others, even decorating!

Following the meeting we will have a Kitchen and Beverage Station Orientation for those who are able to stay a little longer.  Kitchen protocols will be shared and reviewed.

TIRRA Solid Waste Facility

Dear TIRRA Member(s) and Property Owner(s) on Thetis Island,

At the April 28th and July 23rd TIRRA Meetings Ordinary Motions were posed and voted upon by attendees to assist TIRRA determine operation of the Solid Waste Facility and method of financing (user pay and/or parcel tax).

Based on feedback from TIRRA members, it has been determined conclusively that the bylaws of TIRRA, in accordance with which notification of these meetings were made, are not consistent with the BC Societies Act, and that the BC Societies Act takes precedence.

The Societies Act requires a written notification (mail or email) of a meeting to be sent to eligible voters, whereas TIRRA bylaws deem notification by posting on community notice boards to be sufficient.

TIRRA Executive recognizes the need for rescindment of the voting completed at both the April 28th 2022 Annual General Meeting and the July 23rd 2022 General Meeting regarding the Solid Waste Facility due to non-compliance of the meeting notification requirements as per BC Society Act. TIRRA Executive will present a motion recommending this rescindment to be voted on at the General Member Meeting, October 6th.

TIRRA Executive wish to sincerely apologize for this situation.

To ensure confidence in the democratic process through adherence to the Societies Act, TIRRA Executive will be sending written notification via mail or email for the General Meeting on October 6th and all future meetings.

TIRRA bylaw amendments will be required in order to ensure compliance with the Society Act of BC, some of which will be addressed at October General Meeting, and some work will continue over the fall of 2022.

Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work through the details to give all stakeholders a voice.

Sincerely,

TIRRA Executive Board

Tour de Thetis - Saturday

All cyclists, including e-bikers, are invited to join the free Tour de Thetis Saturday, September 17, at 9 am at the Community Hall. Although some riders do the full 30 km course, others go their own way. The objective is to have an enjoyable ride -- it's not a race -- and
finish at the hall at 11 a.m. for a chat and Fred's famous cookies. For more, call Dave 250 246-3530

Post Office Etiquette

Please refer to Sept 10 email.  This is, in part, a repeat.

Hours: Monday to Saturday 0930 to 1700

PLEASE NOTE:  between 1000 and 1130 we can be up at the mailboxes sorting the mail in.  It takes about 45 minutes depending.  If we are in the post office between those times, we are more than  happy to serve you but do not get upset because we do not happen to be there.

Between  1130 and 1230 we will be taking a 30 minute lunch break.  The timing will be depending on how long it takes to do the sort.  Zola is available full time between 1230 and 1700.  Fred is usually available from 1230 to 1700 BUT can be doing propane somewhere in there.  So please be patient.

We have both noticed that some of you are being rude because things are not going your way.  This is not the fault of Zola and Fred.  If things are not working for you at least be civil.

Post Masters Fred and Zola

Rose Petals and Apples

My daughter Athenia has asked me to post on the almighty e-spokes on her behalf. She is very partial to her rose petal tea and homemade applesauce for school. She is wondering if anyone has any kind of roses left, that wouldn't mind us harvesting the spent flowers( need to be pesticide free). Also, any apples, even a small amount would be helpful for her daily applesauce (bruises or a bit wormy is fine.) We love our community so much and are thankful that we can reach out on the magic e-spokes network.

Capernwray Students Arriving - Ferry Traffic

Capernwray Harbour will be welcoming approximately 115 students on Friday, September 16, 2022!  Students along with their family members will be traveling to Thetis between the 8:20am ferry and the 4:05pm ferry.  We are excited to begin this new year with so many students and wanted to make sure the community was aware and informed of how this may affect ferry travel.

Our students will also be traveling to Chemainus each Sunday to attend local churches, this will generally be the 7:55am ferry or the 9:10am ferry.  Please feel free to check the online resources provided by Ann Dickie and Veronica Shelford.

Thank you for your kind understanding and please feel free to reach out to our Main Office if you have any questions.
