Forbes Hall: Beverage Station Notice

With Soup’s On now on hiatus for the spring and summer months, there isn’t a weekly catch up to keep things tidy and clean in the Beverage Station.

We ask that users look after the following:

Remove coffee filter from coffee maker and put either it in the compost out back behind the gardens, or in the garbage.  Do not leave it in the coffee maker (where it becomes moldy within days) or in the countertop compost bin (again, where it becomes moldy within days).  The countertop compost bin must be emptied after each use.

Wipe off drips of coffee / tea / whatever off drawer fronts.  Always wipe counters clean after use.

Dishes: wash and put in racks ready for sanitizing.  If a rack is full and you are going to be in the hall for an hour plus, turn on the sanitizer and run through the dishes.  Follow the instructions posted on the wall above. For more information contact Don Sinclair.

Laundry is done weekly by the cleaners.  Please put towels etc. into the laundry basket under the service counter.

Thanks for caring for this community space.

School Banner Clarification

My apologies if my post about the school banner sounded like it would be okay to remove it if it was a rainbow flag.

Of course that would not be the case!

ThINC Nature Stewards Community Information Session - New Date Set!

We have set a new date for our Nature Stewards Program info session: Sunday, June 4th from 2pm - 5pm at Forbes Hall with the final hour a special plant walk with Penelakut elder, Augie Sylvester.

In case you missed it:
The Nature Stewards Program is a new initiative in collaboration with the Penelakut First Nation and funded in part by Islands Trust Conservancy (ITC), with guidance from the Gabriola Land and Trails Trust (GaLTT) and Habitat Acquisition Trust (HAT). It aims to encourage and support Thetis Island residents in the stewarding and regeneration of the land and its biodiversity through habitat rewilding, restoration, preservation, and protection.

School Banner

School Banner missing, again. FYI it's not a rainbow flag, if that's why you took it!

The colorful banner (purple, blue, red, yellow, pink, turquoise, green- Photo on the Blog and the FB page) in front of the school was made from material which was donated by Mary Gooding and is meant as a colorful reminder for motorists to slow down and keep our students safe.

It was attached to the base, so someone had to deliberately yank it out. It is upsetting that someone in this community would repeatedly vandalise school property. I can only assume that those who have repeatedly removed the banner did so because they think it is a rainbow flag, which it is not! So, to the individual(s) who over the past months have numerous times removed the banner, thrown it into the bushes, moved the whole stand in front of the door, or now took it away, please return it.

The Thetis island Elementary school students and staff will be thankful.
