Bitterly Cold Weather

A weather alert has been posted for the Southern Gulf Islands for a strong arctic outflow bringing well below seasonal temperatures, strong winds, and a wind chill of down to minus 25 degrees Wednesday night and Thursday.  You may want to keep your tap dripping through this period to keep from freezing.

Please check on your senior neighbours.  A phone call to ask if they are cozy enough will warm your heart as well as theirs.

Thank you.

Pick Up of Fish Food in Duncan

If anyone is braving the roads and heading to Duncan, we could use some help getting some food for our koi. The fish are hungry these days keeping warm while they help to keep the lettuce growing.

Pet Smart or Island Peter Zone (by Thrifty’s) both carry the food and we can call in the order ready for pick up.

With thanks in advance.

Forbes Hall: Access & Security

Over the past week, we have had multiple incidents of the hall doors being left unlocked.

If you have been given the access code to enter the hall, you have also been oriented on how to both open and secure the doors.

Please pay attention when accessing and leaving the hall, to ensure you are following the procedures.  Always check that the door you unlocked to enter the hall is secure upon your exit.

Thanks

Thetis Island Marina And Pub

Here we go again with the Wintery weather! The forecast this week promises more snow and below zero (BRRRR) temperatures, likely to last straight through until Friday! We may need to close the driveway some of the time if it gets icy and ask that people use the stairs down from the upper parking area if that's the case. If taking the stairs presents challenges for anyone and they need assistance collecting parcels or things from the store...please consider asking a friend or loved one if they could come instead. Please call the Post Office to confirm pick up times and give authorization for an alternate person to pick up on your behalf.

We have made a decision to close the Restaurant on Mondays (as well as our usual Tues/Wed closure) for part of the Winter season. This decision was not made lightly, but we feel it's the best way to focus our attention on our busier days and use the time to plan some fun and lively things at the Restaurant for the New Year.

We've been listening! Feel free to bring us your ideas and suggestions anytime. I do my best communicating by email thetisislandresorts@gmail.com and I'm happy to make myself available by appointment. I usually have a few balls in the air and I much prefer giving our guests and customers my full attention when they want my ear ;)

****Who's ready to send 2022 off with friends and family, old and new?****

We have created a special NYs Eve 3 course menu (more to come) and we'll be staying open late to ring in 2023 together....I was pushing for 9pm after watching the ball drop because apparently 48 is the new 84 (for me) and 12am sounded incredibly late to me!! I was out voted and put in my place, haha) We'll have great food, festive beverages, music (I'll start the dance party!! HeeHeeHee), and laughter to celebrate "out with the old, in with the new" in style (whatever YOUR style may be. Dress up, dress casual, it's whatever you feel like! Oh and I hear DJiPod takes requests....so I'm not kidding about dusting off the dancing shoes if you are so inclined!

We will be taking reservations starting Tuesday (today) December 19 by email preferably, and I'll post more details about our menu options in the next day or two.

*Please note new changes to the Store hours for Winter:

Saturday - Thursday 10am to 5:30pm

Friday 10am to 7pm

Whew....that was a long one!

Freezing Taps

Just a reminder to remove outside hoses from the faucets.

Looks like we are having a few days of penetrating cold this week.

Forbes Hall Library

Each week there are scheduled times when a volunteer library attendant is on duty.

We look forward to having you join us, we’re there to answer questions, talk about ideas, and generally there to help you out, if needed.  On Sundays we offer tea and goodies – a happy place to meet for a chat with fellow island bibliophiles.

Hours:

Saturday 10:00 am until 1:00 pm

Sunday 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm

Monday 10:00 am until 1:00 pm

The library is always open after 10:00 am when there is a Community Activity at the hall and the entry door is open.  We have a simple honour system for signing out books and DVDs, instructions are at the sign out desk.  If you need help, ask the attendant on duty.  For returns when the building is closed, please use the drop box by the Courtside Entrance.

We hope you enjoy our lovely little island library.

Celine,

your volunteer librarian

TIVFD: Food Bank Extension

Hello generous Community:

We are going to try for a record…we are now at 650 lbs. of donated groceries and 45 pairs of new socks for our combined Harvest House and local Food Banks.  We would very much like our community to get bragging rights for a 1/2 ton (1,000 lbs.) of donated food by New Year’s Eve, so we are extending the drop off date for your unexpired packaged food and warm socks etc. to December 28th afternoon.  Let’s see if we can hit the mark and bring in the New Year with satisfaction by donating for our less fortunate neighbours.
