Massage Provider at Forbes Hall

For those interested in receiving massage at Forbes Hall from a student recently graduated from the RMT program at Camosun College in Victoria, please contact Beth Langdon via email:
bethlangdon10@gmail.com

Beth is not yet a registered RMT and has a few months to wait to write her exams and get her registration number so medical benefits cannot be used to cover the cost of her treatments currently. She is as skilled as any RMT and graduated at the top of her class. I have worked closely with her for the last year in Camosun’s student clinic and have received treatment from her, can vouch for her skills, her compassion and her integrity. A 60-minute appointment with her is $85.

Jennifer Nielsen, RMT
Jennifer Nielsen has been working for the past two summers as a Registered Massage Therapist at Forbes Hall, and for the remainder of the year works as an RMT Instructor at Camosun College. She notes that: a person providing massage that isn’t registered with the Province’s College is simply called a masseuse, a body worker or a wellness massage provider. Beth is allowed to offer primarily relaxation or wellness massage as an unregistered practitioner rather than therapeutic massage, until registered.

Note: All practitioners at Forbes Hall Care Station are required to have malpractice/liability insurance as a condition of rental.

Cowichan Internet and Cellular Connectivity Events

As part of the Cowichan Internet & Cellular Connectivity Strategy project, Economic Development Cowichan is hosting a series of events in our most underserved communities. We would love to see some of you there and hope you will share these events with your networks!

This series of in-person events is being held from September 13 to 17, one in each of the priority communities. Residents, business leaders, and other impacted parties are invited to attend. Participants will explore ways that connectivity can enhance their community and discuss barriers that need to be overcome to achieve their digital aspirations. Feedback will help the project team understand the community’s desired digital future and how it might be achieved.

Thetis & Penelakut Islands
Saturday, September 17 from 2 to 4 pm
Forbes Hall Community Centre, Thetis Island
REGISTER

We’re excited to discover how connectivity and technology can protect and augment what people love about these communities. One community might be interested in using agricultural technology to improve the livelihoods of farmers, while another may want to enable home-based businesses to reach customers around the world. Tourism, emergency response, remote healthcare and education are some other topics that might come up.

Visit planyourcowichan.ca/connect to learn more about the project.

Please share the campaign with your followers, subscribers, neighbours, friends, family and colleagues in the Cowichan region. Here are some links for easy sharing:

Suspicious Crab and Prawn Fishing Incident:

We dropped two complete sets of prawn traps and two sets of crab traps, between the Shoal Islands and Bare Pt. (Chemainus side) on Monday morning. When we went to retrieve them at 4 pm... the prawn traps had disappeared...presumably stolen...but the crab traps remained untouched.

Islands Trust News Release: September 2022 Islands Trust Council Quarterly Meeting Announced

Tuesday
Aug162022

Yellow Weather Notification for British Columbia.

A ridge of high pressure is building this week and will bring temperatures close to Heat Warning criteria for parts of the South Coast, Southern Interior and possibly the Central Interior and Peace region.

Temperatures meeting Heat Warning criteria are expected to be marginal and short lived; however, may still increase risk of heat related illness. Please monitor public weather alerts for possible Heat Warnings.

As the ridge breaks down and a change in the weather pattern occurs, there will be a risk of thunderstorms starting on Thursday, becoming more widespread by Friday. Fire danger will steadily increase in response to building heat and the drying of forest fuels. Also, the risk of lightning will increase the potential of new wildfire activity and gusty winds from thunderstorms may further enhance the spread of wildfires.
