Help Wanted

We were wondering if we could ask 10 to 12 people to give 3 of us a hand to flush a young deer from our property Sunday around 1 out of our yard?

It has been stuck in our yard for 4 or 5 days now with its mother on the other side of the fence. We're at 49A Harbour Rd. The hillside is a bit steep.

Thanks,

Hermida & Ralph

Post Box # Update

Hi Everyone,

I think all the new post box numbers should be set. You should have heard from me if you needed to make a change. If you haven’t heard from me to give you a new physical post box number, you should be good to go if you just pull out the hyphen and your box number is between 1-230.

Everyone should now have a physical post box between 1-230. If you don’t, please let me know. If you haven’t heard from me and you are still needing a post office box, let me know, as I have worked through all of the waitlist that I was given. Generally, Thetis PO Boxes are given to full time residents, or close to.

This is my last call as I will hand all the box info back to Fred for Monday so he can input it in preparation for our new physical post boxes.

Thank you to everyone for being so flexible with all these changes and the process of weeding through it all. I know there have been a lot of postings to get through. A big thank you to everyone who needed to change their box numbers, and an extra mention to the people who changed their boxes back to their original number (so changing their address twice) to prevent a ripple of others needing to change theirs.

This truly is a very special place to see people take care of each other so well.

Contact me at
michelleblack@hotmail.com or 250-715-8942 to text.

Thank you again,

Michelle and Fred

ThINC Nature House July-Aug Calendar of Events!

It’s back. And it’s going to be a full-packed summer. The Nature House at The Portal (254 North Cove Road) will be open to residents and visitors this summer. Almost every day of the week will have something for someone. From food security activities, community science, and evening documentaries and talks, to a Junior Biologist's program, seaquarium drop-ins, nature arts and crafts, and expert-led workshops, this summer’s Nature House event lineup might just be something you’d like to dig into.

To see the full calendar, please see:

https://www.thetisislandnatureconservancy.org/single-post/thinc-nature-house-july-aug-calendar-of-events

As the calendar only provides the broad brushstrokes of what to look forward to, we will be sending out weekly details on the what, where, when, and who. This will go out at the beginning of each week on eSPOKES, on the ThINC website, and our Facebook page. So keep your eyes peeled tomorrow morning for details on the opening week's events.

To become a Friend of the Nature House to access all* of our Nature House events and activities, please fill out the following form: www.thetisislandnatureconservancy.org/_files/ugd/a5ed41_67fc506d7588444a9f89dc86f89ef244.pdf

If you are not a member, events/activities are by donation.

*Friends of the Nature House gives members access to almost all Nature House activities and events.
There are exceptions if additional costs are required (e.g. a boat trip to a neighbouring island, off-island guest speakers).

If you have any questions regarding the Nature House program or any of its events, please get in touch with our Nature House Coordinator, Connelly at: connelly@thetisislandnatureconservancy.org

Looking forward to seeing you there,

ThINC Team

ThINC - PAG Drop-in from 10-12 Today

Feel free drop by the People's Apothecary Garden (PAG) today between 10-12. Each week is something new. The mullein and motherwort are transforming into skyscrapers, and the sage and lavender are buzzing with myriad bees. And hurray! The self-heal has determined it is ready to spread its leaflets and cover the space where the deceiving Pennyroyal once was. At the back, we are working on a new space to highlight Thetis Island's native medicinal plants.

Enjoy the sun!

ThINC 10th Year Anniversary Celebration - Saturday, July 9th!

This year, ThINC turns 10! From a wee seed of an idea whilst gardening amongst friends, ThINC has grown into what it is today - a space for nature-lovin’ people to explore, learn, engage, and collaborate on conservation and stewardship activities here on Thetis Island.

In celebration, please join us on Saturday, July 9th for a day of nature appreciation, dinner, and dancing! At 2pm, we invite you on a guided walk with biologist Carrina Maslovat & children’s treasure hunt through Fairyslipper Forest. And from 5-9pm there will be a feast, Mediterranean themed, and live music and family dance with caller Doug Paterson and music by award winning fiddler Ivonne Hernandez and guitarist Cy Thompson!

What is a family dance you might ask? Well, a family dance is super fun and includes all kinds of dances: round dances, folk dances, square dances, line dances, and just plain goofy dances.

Everyone dances with everyone else. No experience necessary. Fun for all ages. Come as you are or dress up in a nature themed costume.

To reserve tickets for the evening portion of the event (food and dance), please fill out the following form no later than July 2nd (limited tickets available).

Form link: https://forms.gle/qxJAPeJTLPMiEczB6

If you’d prefer filling out a paper copy, please visit us at the Howling Wolf Market on Saturday, June 25th or July 2nd, or on Community Day at Forbes Hall, Saturday, June 25th.

Looking forward to celebrating with you!
ThINC Team
