The Provincial government has published an Extreme Heat Preparedness Guide:
TIVFD
In 2011 The Thetis Island Marine Association (TIMA) was given authority by Transport Canada, Fisheries and Oceans under the Navigable Waters Protection Act to proceed with the installation of Private Spar Buoys, marine moorage application for regulation of marine buoy placement and privilege to delineate marine traffic around designated anchorage areas.
TIMA projects include:
· Installation and maintenance of channel markers improving navigation
· Mapping and designation of mooring anchorage areas
· Removal of derelict vessels.
· Transport Canada Approved harbour plan approved moorage application process.
After several years of inactivity, a new board stepped forward in April of 2022 to continue and build on the work of the previous board. The top priority of the new board was to replace the hardware and reset the channel markers which was completed this May.
Our next project is to update the current mooring information in Telegraph Harbour.
We are in the process of creating a database of the existing moorings in Telegraph Harbour. The GPS mapping coordinates have been completed and each buoy has been assigned a number. This will be a fluid document which can be changed as the information of the buoy occupant changes, however the number will not change.
Our intention is to create a list of the numbered buoys with the corresponding owners contact information. This would help us manage our harbour and provide contact information for emergencies, such as a collision, fire or breakaway.
The Transport Canada (TC) Regulations for private buoys are quite prescriptive and the majority of the moorings in Telegraph Harbour do not comply.
Private Buoy Regulations (justice.gc.ca) for complete information . Canada Shipping Act SOR/99-335
We don't expect that all the buoys will comply with all the regulations but we would hope to see compliance with a name and contact number of the current mooring owner as prescribed in the Private Buoy Regulations:
1d) "the buoy displays, in a conspicuous location and in a permanent and legible manner, the name, address and telephone number of its owner"
2) The owner of a private buoy placed in any Canadian waters shall ensure that the information required by paragraph (1)(d) is accurate at all times.
If you have relinquished your mooring to someone else it is important that the information on the buoy is changed because there may be some unintended liability issues.
Unmarked moorings could indicate that the mooring is abandoned and may be subject to removal or reassigned. There are several buoys missing contact information in the Harbour.
We will have a booth at the community information day this Saturday 10-2 at Forbes Hall with a map of the existing harbour plan and mooring buoys and an opportunity to update information.
If you intend to place a mooring please contact TIMA for assistance. We can help you do it right the first time.

The Summer Athletic & Socratic Academy will take place every Monday in July and August, at 3 pm. It will be organized on an ad hoc, drop in, basis. I will always be there - if I am not there, it means I am at a better place. However, I do not expect to be swimming in/above the clouds too soon. We will always start with soccer practice and from there we will move to either another physical or, alternatively, educational activity, such as gymnastics, hand-eye coordination sports, swimming, snorkeling, Illiad, Odyssey, the Greek Phenomenon and other body and mind enhancing activities.
We will start on July 4, 2022.

Our apologies to all who attempted to send in a request to be included on the list of those interested in a community clinic for covid shots. The server had "disappeared" the address without our knowing it. It's now been fixed. But if you sent us an email about it and didn't get a response, please try again.
It may have just been swallowed without our seeing it.

It's berry season. Well slowly they will eventually ripen for Gloria's jams and jellies. Meanwhile, she has 4 types of Marmalade for your morning toast, as well as some great decals celebrating Thetis Island.
Coffee is always on at the Market, so come and have a coffee and one of the delicious treats from Marylyn and Anne-Marie and sit awhile.
The Thetis Island Improvement District (TIID) will hold its Annual General Meeting on Saturday July 9th, 2022, at 11 AM at Forbes Hall Community Centre. The purpose of this public meeting is to receive the audited financial statements for 2021, to report on the operations of the Thetis Island Volunteer Fire Department, the Improvement District, and whatever other items of business may be raised.
One trustees' term is up this year. Trustee Bill Dickie has agreed to stand for another 3 year term. We will call for nominations from the floor, and if an election is required, it will be by secret ballot. To be eligible to vote, or to be a candidate for trustee, a person must be eighteen years of age, a Canadian citizen, an owner of land in the Improvement District and a BC resident for the previous six months.
AGM Agenda:

Hi All,
Ok, here are the next batch of numbers. I have a couple option for you. Please let me know which you would prefer, but first a couple of factors to consider…
The first issue, it looks like the new physical post office boxes will be numbered 1-300. However, there isn’t anything to stop us from putting a paper sticky on the box that just says your post address. Meaning, if in the off-island world, you might stay with 510, Fred will just know to put 510’s mail in physical box 255, for example. You would just know your 510 mail goes into 255, and a paper sticky could be added just as a reminder. This could be an option for all the below address number. The only drawback to this is that it is dependent on transfer list being followed and passed on other people working in the post office, but it should work.
The second issue that has come up is with the 4-digit numbers. With further feedback, it looks like many people just have been cutting off the last digit of the address to make things work when only three digits are allowed in the off-island world. Only issue with that is it is post office personnel and list driven. If there is a change of post office staff, there may be temporary mix ups to work out to prevent mail from going into the incorrect box. In this case, box 121 could end up with all 1210-1215 if they were to revert to the 3 digit 121.
Ok, here we go with the options:
Option 1:
You can just stay with your below address, and we will just put that address on the list to be diverted to another to another box between 1-300. You keep your off-island address, but your physical Thetis post box number will be different (or just have a sticky over top, saying 510, for example). Definitely, a bit more work for post office and not as clean, but doable.
Option 2:
We look for a new post box number for you, so the post box address and physical post box numbers are the same. Individually, I can give you a sense what numbers are left, and you can choose. Some make sense and are pretty close. For example, if you were 1211, I could give you 211. Others are not so close, but we can try to find something that works. I will try to work with you don’t have to toss letterhead and all that stuff (maybe just cross out a number until you reorder).
Ok, so those are the two options I have for the boxes below.
Let me know which you would prefer - Option 1 or Option 2. As always, my email address is michelleblack@hotmail.com or text me at 250-715-8942
If I don’t hear from you, I will default to Option 1.
If your number is not on the list below, I’m still working on those pieces. Stay tuned.
Thanks again with your patience with this process,
Michelle and Fred
