Family Fun Day is back!

Greetings Islanders,

The Thetis Island Community Fund board members are excited to be hosting our Family Fun Day fundraiser once again!

Due to Forbes Hall being shut down for renovations, followed by Covid restrictions, it’s been a long four years without our summer event.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, August 6th at Forbes Hall.

Come on out and enjoy a BBQ and some good ol’ fashioned games and races with your neighbours!

Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.

Post Box Change - Update

Hi Everyone (ok, this is a long one),

In an attempt to be somewhat systematic around looking for solutions for the post box number change situation, I’m trying to go step by step. Hopefully, doing the easiest pieces first.

Today’s step comes with two question to ask yourselves:

1. If you removed the hyphen from your post office box number (ie: 14-8 to 148), do you see it on the below list?

*If it is not on the list, that’s ok, it just means we have more work to do around that number first. These are potentially the easiest ones. More information is coming around the other numbers soon.

2. If it does appear on the list below, are there any issues with that becoming your new official post office box number, given that the hyphen must go? If there is an issue, please let me know by email michelleblack@hotmail.com or text 250-715-8942 on Monday, if at all possible, so we can move on to the next stage.

201, 203, 204, 205, 207, 208, 209, 210

The goal of listing these numbers here is to suss out any unforeseen issues or conflicts that I may have a missed. This is not an official change in anyway. Still please give us time to confirm that there are no other issues with the above numbers first. We will let you know. Yes, please hold steady. Thank you.

Also, just to let you know. It looks like at some point, there are likely changes to the actual physical boxes. Not sure when. Fred is working on it. But regardless, if we can nail down the numbers first, it should all transition more smoothly.

Thanks again wonderful community members and stay tuned,

Michelle and Fred

TIVFD: Thank You

The TIVFD and the TIVFD Auxiliary Support Teams completed a wildfire scenario on North Cove. Road on Saturday.  A big Thank You to all of the motorists and walkers who supported this important training by obeying our traffic control, waiting patiently while we operated water transport and other emergency vehicles.

You contributed to a very successful day for all of the responders.

Post Box Number Change - Update (yup, another one)

Thank you everyone who has emailed about the Post Box changes. Great to get a sense of where people are at on the topic.  Also, thank you for everyone who let me know if they had already started the changeover process to the posted “new number” on the white sticky on the post box. This is my last call (hopefully) to ask people to  let me know if they have started the changeover process. Many people have added where they are in the process as well, as if you are not far, it may be easier to change back, than continue forward making changes. Many people have also shared that they have already been using the 3-digit number (ie:148, even when they had 14-8 as well), and it has been quite easy.

So, to recap the last few day (just in case you managed to miss these posts):

1. Please put a hold on changing your post box address to the “new” one on your white sticky as we work on solutions.

2. Last call on emailing me at michelleblack@hotmail.com to let know whether you have already started changing over, especially if you are in deep in the process and really don’t want to change back. By changing back, I still mean removing the hyphen, but staying with the same 3 digits (ie: 14-8 to 148). If emailing is hard, you can text at 250-715-8942. Please do so by the end of the weekend (Today - Sunday, the June, 19th - Happy Father’s Day, by the way), so we can move to the next steps.

3. Yes, sorry, but some people will still need to change. We will look at that in a follow up Espokes.

Thanks everyone!

Stayed tuned,

Michelle and Fred

PO Box Numbers for the Phone Book Database

Many thanks to those who have sent me their new box numbers.  Since Michelle and others are working with Fred at the Post Office to see if they can minimize the changes needed, please don't hesitate to change whatever numbers you have sent me if a better system works out.

We have time, and volunteers willing to make use of it to try to make things better.  How very like Thetis!

Thanks to all,
