Post Box Change - the next batch (yup, it is a long one)

Hi All,

Ok, here are the next batch of numbers. I have a couple option for you. Please let me know which you would prefer, but first a couple of factors to consider…

The first issue, it looks like the new physical post office boxes will be numbered 1-300. However, there isn’t anything to stop us from putting a paper sticky on the box that just says your post address. Meaning, if in the off-island world, you might stay with 510, Fred will just know to put 510’s mail in physical box 255, for example. You would just know your 510 mail goes into 255, and a paper sticky could be added just as a reminder. This could be an option for all the below address number. The only drawback to this is that it is dependent on transfer list being followed and passed on other people working in the post office, but it should work.

The second issue that has come up is with the 4-digit numbers. With further feedback, it looks like many people just have been cutting off the last digit of the address to make things work when only three digits are allowed in the off-island world. Only issue with that is it is post office personnel and list driven. If there is a change of post office staff, there may be temporary mix ups to work out to prevent mail from going into the incorrect box. In this case, box 121 could end up with all 1210-1215 if they were to revert to the 3 digit 121.

Ok, here we go with the options:

Option 1:

You can just stay with your below address, and we will just put that address on the list to be diverted to another to another box between 1-300. You keep your off-island address, but your physical Thetis post box number will be different (or just have a sticky over top, saying 510, for example). Definitely, a bit more work for post office and not as clean, but doable.

Option 2:

We look for a new post box number for you, so the post box address and physical post box numbers are the same. Individually, I can give you a sense what numbers are left, and you can choose. Some make sense and are pretty close. For example, if you were 1211, I could give you 211. Others are not so close, but we can try to find something that works. I will try to work with you don’t have to toss letterhead and all that stuff (maybe just cross out a number until you reorder).

Ok, so those are the two options I have for the boxes below.

Let me know which you would prefer - Option 1 or Option 2. As always, my email address is michelleblack@hotmail.com or text me at 250-715-8942

If I don’t hear from you, I will default to Option 1.

If your number is not on the list below, I’m still working on those pieces. Stay tuned.

Thanks again with your patience with this process,

Michelle and Fred

St. Margaret's Cemetery Maintenance - Sunday June 26th

On Sunday June 26th from 10-3, St. Margaret’s Cemetery Committee will be having its annual maintenance day. The cemetery is a vault of island history and is the permanent home for many of our forebears. From tidying up headstones, to general landscaping there will be a range of projects to suit everyone's interests and abilities.

Please plan to come by and join us, all are welcome. If possible, please bring small garden tools for general landscaping and/or scrub brushes and water pails to clean grave markers. We would encourage you to bring a picnic lunch, where we will remember and celebrate the lives that came before us.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Landline Phone Wanted

We are getting a landline again. Unfortunately, we took our phones to the" free store" at the recycling center when it was open.

We are wondering if anyone has a landline phone that they are not using.

Thanks so much for your help.

July 1st Sail Past - on hold this year

Ahoy Islanders,

Due to the crazy fuel prices, I will not be spearheading the annual July 1st Sail Past this year.

As much as it pains me to forgo a fun island tradition, I hope this news comes as a financial relief to anyone planning to participate.

My apologies for the short notice.  I look forward to resuming this event next year!

Hopefully by then a second mortgage won’t be required to boat around the island.

Have a great Canada Day!

FireSmart BC Safety Message

Summer weather is just around the corner, and now is a good time to clean your roof and gutters.

In the event of a wildfire, embers can be blown downwind and easily ignite dry leaves, needles, cones and other debris in gutters and on your roof.

Now is the time to take action. You won’t have time to get prepared once fire is at your doorstep.
