Post Box Change - Potential solution

I spoke with Fred this morning at the post office and we spoke about ways to make the number change less painful for the community as a whole.

This is what we are going to work towards:

1. If you haven’t yet given people your new box number (ie: changed your mailing address), please wait. We maybe able to come up with a better, less onerous solution. If you have, don’t worry about. It is already registered with Fred.

2. What we would ideally like to do is to have the hyphen dropped from your number and go with that number (ie: 14-8 moves to 148). However, there are some parameters around this and some boxes will not be so easily switched over, but for the majority of people it should work. If when you take out the hyphen, your box number is between 1-300 (ie: 4-6 become 46, and 15-9 becomes 159), it looks like it will work. However, there are a small number of people who have with different number, 6-10 or 12-14 just to randomly give examples, who will not work and will need to change to fit into a 1-300 number at some point (but waits please).

3. We have a bit of time to fix this before the new boxes arrive in a couple of months, and you can still use your old hyphened number until that happens. If you have done a swap with someone, please know that nothing is changed, until it is changed with Fred. He is willing to work with us to make this as painless as possible. Instead of individual swapping, we might be able to do something larger that could help more people out and save lots of headache, time, and lost mail. Also, maybe we could just give Fred the info all at once.

Again, if you haven’t changed your address to the new assigned one on you mailbox sticky, please wait and let’s see if we can work for an easier solution for the community. Also, if you know of someone who might not see this espokes, maybe let them know not to change theirs yet either.

Clearly, there will be more information to come on this as we work for something more doable.

Thank you in advance,

Michelle Black

Road Delays Saturday

This is a reminder that North Cove Road from Mission Rd. to Mill Rd. will have fire department vehicles operating between 10 a.m and 2 p.m. for simulated wildland fire training.  You may be directed to cross a hose line over a hose ramp so as not to damage a charged hose line. (Driving over an unprotected fire hose is dangerous for fire fighters and illegal under the Motor Vehicle Act.)

The trail up Burchell Hill that starts at the locked chain and is on private land will be closed as well.  Fairy Slipper Trail is not affected.

Thank you for your patience and support.

Thank you!

New PO Box Numbers

I don't know if we can do anything about it at this point, but of course all the PO Box numbers in the phone book are going to be wrong within the next few months.  If people wouldn't mind sending me their new PO box numbers for the phone book database, it'll save doing it all at once when the next book is done.

Thanks!

Further on Postal Boxes

The numbering of the postal boxes was not taken lightly Tanvir and I went through a number of permutations before we realized that we had to go with a straight numbering sequence.  The reasons are twofold.  One is to ensure that you have a consistent number that fits the Canada post software.  Two, we will be getting in in the next few months a wall of post office boxes that should hit 300.  This will give us room to expand and will allow you to transfer your new post office box numbers directly without having to change your address again.

I understand that some of you may be facing for business reasons a fair financial hit if you have to change your number sequence (e.g. 16-1 becomes 161).  If this is an issue, make your case with me and I will see what I can do.  Another way is to find out if you can trade numbers with someone who has the one you need.  Let me know immediately if you come to that kind of an arrangement so I can record it.  Note you will not have to change your post office box, it will just be changed on the paper until the new post office boxes arrive.  I hope this clears up some of the issues around this matter.

Thanks for your cooperation I know things have been a mess of late but once I get the new system up to speed the service should be much better.

Regular Updates to the Combined Busy Ferry Schedule

Pioneer Pacific and Capernwray have now both sent in their current summer schedules for extra traffic on the ferry.  For those who are new to the island, these have been combined into a single schedule, linked from the homepage of thetisisland.net, or you can check it directly at
https://www.thetisisland.net/ferry/current-combined-busy.pdf

This schedule is updated as soon as new information or changes come in, so don't just print it out and figure it's good for the summer.  The Dangerous Goods sailings are listed too and indicates when BC Ferries lets us know whether there's a run to Penelakut, which also affects our schedule.

If any other individual or group on the island plans, or knows of plans, for unusually large extra traffic on any sailing, let us know so it can be included on the schedule.

Thanks!
