ThINC - People's Apothecary Garden Drop-in and Work Party

Good day! We will be holding another drop-in / work party at the People's Apothecary Garden this Friday between 10 - 12 in the morning. Bring your gardening implements or feel free to just pop on by to enjoy the space; it is bursting with life and colour.  

On that note, the students of Thetis Island Elementary made some really fantastic teas earlier this week using plants from the PAG, including Rose Mint Tea (rose petals & chocolate mint), Brownie (chocolate mint and borage), Lemon Explosion (lemon balm & thyme),  Rosey Cat tea (rosemary and catmint), and Rosebalm Tea, a refreshing iced tea using lemon balm & rose petals. Feel free to get creative and harvest some delightful and diverse herbs for your own tea.

New Post Office Box Numbers

Let me introduce myself.  My name is Fred Adair and I live on North Cove Road.  My wife and I have been on the island for the last 4 years.  Currently, I am in the middle of learning the ropes of the postal system and was waiting until I got more information about what was going on with the new system before I posted.  Well today Canada Post told us that our unique postal system will need to change to fit the national system.  Let us just say I am getting some interesting responses to this.  So ...

First off do not shoot the messenger.

June 29 Canada Post will bringing our computer and software system up to the national standard.  This means our unique postal box numbering system has to go because it does not work with the software.    Canada Post is asking us to use the new post office box numbers that you see attached to your postal boxes.  It is not arbitrary it is needed to get into the national system.

Despite the above you are not expected to change overnight.  I will be keeping a double file until everyone can get changed over. This will certainly continue for the next few months.  At the end of the day however you will have to be using your new PO Box number or risk losing your mail in the system.

As I get more information on implementation and time lines  I will keep you posted.  Right now everything is business as usual but when you can could you come in and confirm your PO Box and bring the records up to date.  I have major gaps that need to be filled.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.  This will not be an overnight process we will work into it.

Gentle Yoga with Sound Bath Meditation

Hello Islanders,

A reminder that yoga will be Wednesday and Friday this week, from 9:45 -11:00 am in the main room of the hall.  Bring a yoga mat, dress comfortably in layers.  It is always good to bring a firm blanket (Mexico style).

I look forward to seeing you, remember Den Kelsey was 90 when he started and he loved it, he still does and the last time I saw him he looked healthy and alive at 98 (I think?).

TICS - Thetis Island Community Soccer Club

On Monday the TICS - The Thetis Island community Soccer Club - visited Penelakut Island and played against Penelakut Youth Club.  The teams were even and the many spectators were thrilled when they saw the effort of all the young players.  On our team, the girls, Amelia, Alina, Athenia, Livia, Lilia, Sophia, Kiersley, Aubrey, Jayleigh, and two brave boys, Ivan and Dominic, reaped the fruit of their 9 month long practice.  We all had an amazing time. 

All Thetis Islanders are invited to play against our little daredevils on June 23.  Please get back to me (jcerny07@gmail.com) if you want to volunteer and be part of the adult team.  If enough adults participate, we could even have a fun tournament!
