Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 9:00AM We are looking for a place to rent by June.
After 8 ½ glorious years renting a cabin at Jollity Farm John Hannah & Jo-Anne Warnock need to find a new home.
Ideally a 2-bedroom house with garage or an outbuilding for storage.
Jo-Anne has been working at Pot of Gold Coffee for over 20 years and Johnny has been delivering our mail for 18 years.
We would dearly love to stay on Thetis Island.
We can provide references.
Our home 250-246-2242
Johnny’s cell 250-210-1625

Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 8:53AM Public help is essential for monitoring for bat disease
BC bats are threatened by disease, and researchers continue to ask the public for help. White-nose syndrome (WNS), a fungal disease responsible for the death of millions of bats in eastern North America, is spreading on the west coast.
Signs of the disease include unusual bat activity in winter and the appearance of dead bats outdoors as they succumb to the effects of WNS. Bat carcasses will be submitted for testing for white-nose syndrome and would provide the earliest indication of the presence of the disease in BC. Reports of winter bat activity will help focus research, monitoring, and protection efforts.
We are encouraging Thetis Islanders to report dead bats or any sightings of winter bat activity to your BC Community Bat Program Coordinator, Rob Welsh at 250-246-1547 or email rmwelsh@telus.net
Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 8:51AM The Fire Dept. receives many complaints about neighbours not complying with the Smoke Control Regulations the province has in place for High Sensitivity Zones. All of Thetis Island is in a High Sensitivity Zone. We all know that we must check the Venting Index to see if it is okay to ignite a burn pile that day. We all know that it must be attended, water must be available, and it must be extinguished by 4:30 this time of year.
But it may be that most have not read the Smoke Control Act and are not aware that burn piles must consist of dried branches (piled for four months) or have only a 30% moisture content. This means that green branches, newly cut, are prohibited in burn piles.
Also, your burn setback must be at least 500 metres (1500 feet) from another residence. If any neighbour is within that setback, you cannot burn. If you live near the Thetis Island school or Capernwray’s classrooms, you cannot burn within 1000 metres (3,000 feet).
This is an excellent Fact Sheet about burning in our Zone…please read it if you conduct outdoor burning on your property:

Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 8:46AM All you want to know about Abrupt Shellfish, and our application for rezoning part of Preedy Harbour to allow Mariculture of Geoducks. We know this can affect your community, but maybe not as much as you imagine….
We want to be good neighbours, and make sure everyone knows all the facts, and has their say.
Please read through the attached Information Packet below, follow the PDF link for more in depth information, and if this doesn’t answer all your questions or concerns, or even if it does, please join us online on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 6:30pm for a Community Meeting. You will find the link to the meeting and information to join us by phone at the bottom of page 5.
We hope to see you there!
If you would like a more private interaction, please email us at abruptshell@shaw.ca
Best Regards,
Todd Russell

Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 8:45AM Does anyone on the island have an electronic keyboard I could borrow for a couple of weeks starting March 14?
A friend who teaches piano online is coming to visit and hers would be extra luggage on the plane.
Thanks in advance.
