Chevy Bolt EV Recall for Battery Problem

From various Canadian news sources:

General Motors says it has expanded a recall of its Chevy Bolt electric vehicles to include all model years because of a risk the battery cells could catch fire.

This latest recall includes about 73,000 Bolts from model years 2019 through 2022, including just over 10,000 in Canada. A previous recalled announced in July was for 69,000 Bolts from between 2017 and 2019.

The company says that in rare cases, two manufacturing defects in the battery cells create a risk of fire.

It warns that owners should limit charging to 90 per cent of battery capacity, park vehicles outside immediately after charging and not leave vehicles charging indoors overnight.

The Detroit-based automaker said it will replace the battery modules in all the affected vehicles at an expected cost of about $1 billion US.

The company initially issued a recall in November after getting reports that five of the vehicles had caught fire. Two people suffered smoke inhalation and a house was set ablaze.

Forbes Hall Community Centre Grand Opening Concert Update

We regret to inform the community that the decision has been made to cancel the concert that was planned as part of the day.  There did not seem to be an amenable way for the event to be both inclusive and safe during this COVID Pandemic.

However, we are pleased to be going ahead with the daytime portion of the program, and the complimentary BBQ lunch.  We welcome everyone to this special event to mark the full reopening of Forbes Hall.

Looking forward to seeing you on September 18th.

Reserve your Thetis Island Farm Co-op 'Happy' Pork

We are raising 12 pigs from May to November this year and still have a small number of whole pigs or sides available for reservation.

How it works:

Similar to other CSA (community supported agriculture) programs, we will request an up-front investment. This helps farmers with the cost of feed over the 5-6 months of care.

Our pigs are a 4-way X breed proven for their excellent meat production. They are a blend of Landrace/Yorkshire/Duroc/Hampshire.

They are raised 100% on grass pastures on two Thetis Island farms and are enjoying non-GMO grains with lots of farm vegetables and fruit.

They are harvested at a local Government certified abattoir and you can customize your butchery order. Pigs will weigh in at approx. 210-250 lbs.

Costs & details:

You pay $5.5/lb hanging weight which covers piglet purchase, feed, husbandry, transport to abattoir and delivery of finished product.

You pay the abattoir and butcher fees.
Abattoir $75-85/pig
Butchery (cut & wrap) $0.90/lb
Smoking  $1.50/lb (bacon slicing costs extra)
Sausages  $3.25/lb
+ GST (only on butchery services)

Please contact Elisabeth at info@jollityfarm.ca or call/text 250.415.0101 with an expression of interest and/or with questions.
