Volunteers Needed to Get Moved Back into Forbes Hall Community Centre

~ many hands make light work ~

As the Forbes Hall Expansion Project nears completion, there will be a series of callouts for volunteering.  From the outset of this project, the plan for this stage was for community members to help get the building cleaned following construction, help with installations and cabinetry, and get the stored items moved into the building and unpacked.

Work will occur with COVID protocols in place.
There’s lots of room for physical distancing, and masks are required.

We hope you will commit to one or more of the six different categories posted and join other community members in getting moved back into the beautiful new Forbes Hall Community Centre.

There are six categories of volunteering needed.  Please select tasks that you have experience with, or that you can do, and email hall@thetisisland.net with your name, best contact info, and your choices. You will be contacted, with a few days’ notice, before the jobs start.  You will also be informed of any supplies/tools that may be helpful.

Needed: Leaders

If you feel that you are skilled in any of the following categories, please mention it in your email.

Leaders will not need to be on-site full time but would be expected to orientate volunteers regarding expectations.

Currently, a leader must be found for Cleaning starting next week.

Task Categories

Tasks will be staggered so the jobs do not overwhelm each other, or volunteers.

1. Cleaning Following Construction: dusting walls and ceilings, wiping trim clean, vacuuming, sweeping, removing tape and marks from the floors, washing floors.  No one will be expected to do jobs that cannot easily be reached by a standard 5’ step ladder.

2. Cabinetry and Shelving - assembly and install.  Re-install kitchen cabinets, assemble and install IKEA cabinetry, bookcases, and storage shelving.

3. Moving In: moving items from the Sea-Cans to the Hall.  Items will be moved into the areas where they belong.

4. Exterior Final Clean Up: gathering brush for chipping, laying mulch in gardens, filling trenches, filling construction waste bin, outdoor sweeping, raking, and general clean-up.

5. Unpacking: unpacking boxes as shelves and cabinets become available.

6. After the Move-In Cleaning: once the Sea-Cans have been emptied and as much unpacking as possible has occurred there will be another group of cleaners to dust / clean the items from storage, reclean the floors, and wipe any marks off the walls.

It’s finally time to ready Forbes Hall Community Centre to welcome our community back!

Thank you,

Questions about Eligibility for COVID Vaccine Answered

Questions to the Provincial Immunize BC website:

Can anyone living in BC get the COVID-19 vaccine?

What if I don’t have health insurance?

What if I am a visitor from another part of Canada or another country?

What if I don’t have MSP?

What if I am an international student?

What if I am not a resident?

Answer:

“Yes. If you are living in B.C. during the pandemic, you are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. You do not need to be in the BC MSP health insurance program (a BC Services card or public health number) to get the vaccine. You do not need to be a Canadian citizen or have permanent residency to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

During the pre-registration process, people will need to show proof they are currently living (residing) in the province. However, the goal of the vaccination campaign is to vaccinate as many people as possible. If you have a unique circumstance and have concerns about proof, please call in to discuss your situation when it is your turn to register.

This means you can be a visitor from another province or country who is living in B.C. temporarily. This includes international students or parents visiting from another. : Thursday, Mar 11, 2021”

If you are one of the persons hesitating to get registered because you think you are not eligible, get your name onto the Thetis Island list at covidclinic@thetisislandfire.ca, and then when it comes time for you to register with the Vancouver Island Health Authority by phone for our mass clinic for all of the community you can say you are included as a community member.

The goal is to get everyone on our island vaccinated ASAP.
