Thetis Cetacean Sightings

Humpback whales passed Thetis Island a couple of days ago—a wonderful thing to see. Made me think how easy it is to miss cetaceans (orcas, porpoises, other whales).

So, I’ve set up a way for us to alert each other when there are cetaceans around Thetis.

Interested?  Two simple steps.
First, if you don’t already have the Signal app on your mobile, download it (https://signal.org/), open it, and follow the simple setup. Allow notifications.
(Signal’s a messaging app like WhatsApp, but non-profit and not Meta/Facebook.)

Second, on the mobile where you now have the Signal app, click on this link to join the Thetis Cetacean Sightings group: https://tinyurl.com/thetiscetaceans

If you spot orcas, porpoises, or other whales around Thetis, send a short message to the group saying where they are and where they’re headed. And look out for that info from others.

Strictly for sharing info in real time about cetaceans visible from Thetis.
To protect everyone’s peace, I’ll remove anyone who uses this for anything else, including chatter.

Tech difficulties? Ask a teenager.

Happy whale-watching!

New Post Office Saturday Hours

Starting next Saturday, Nov 22, the Post Office will only be open from 10:00 to 12:00noon.
We were opened on Saturday to catch the working crowd that could not make it to the PO during the previous weekday PO hours.
Now that we are open until 5:30 PM during the weekdays, we are available after the 5 o'clock ferry, so we felt Saturday was redundant.

The new Saturday morning hours are used to sort mail and provide a small window (2 hours) for those who wish to come on a Saturday.

If enough of you wish us to remain open past noon on Saturday, we may change back to the old Saturday hours. Past history indicates that Saturday afternoon was not busy and on some days few, if anyone, showed up.

Keep us posted (pun intended)

Thetis Community Beware

I noticed in Friday’s e-Spokes that the propane tanks from the Community Hall were stolen.

I was away a good portion of September & on return I saw my 10 lb full propane tank was missing from the small work deck in front of my shop. This is right in our yard. The tank is known as the “ curling rock” tank & are no longer manufactured & they are quite a bit more expensive than a regular 20 lb tank. It is off my boat with a fitted spot for it.

I didn’t post it as I was hoping whoever stole it would at least return the empty tank.

It is disconcerting that someone patrolled through our yard “ casing the joint” even though the property was occupied the whole time I was away.

Sad,
Jamie

Forbes Hall: Missing Items

Several items are missing from Forbes Hall.

These kitchen items have gone missing since mid-June. Please check within your home kitchen equipment to see if any of these items may have made it to your home following the Canada Day Breakfast, Family Fun Day, any of this fall’s Soup’s Ons, or at any other time within the last six months.

Kitchen Aid Processor attachments, including the main blade/stem – kept in a zip loc bag. Bag with attachments is missing. Return to kitchen when found.

Cambro square food storage bin– we have the lid, so just the bin is missing. Translucent, plastic, 6 Quart /5.5 litres. Return to kitchen when found.

Large, white, rectangular serving platter with raised edge. Return to kitchen when found.

As well, the Propane Tanks from the BBQ have been taken. This is far more recent, and very disappointing. If you know of someone who has these, please ask that they get returned to the hall once they are empty, better that we get them back empty rather than not at all. Leave outside by the BBQ.

Please remember that if kitchen equipment or service-ware breaks while you’re working in food services or using the equipment for other events, please contact info@forbeshall.ca. A note on the white board on the fridge in the main kitchen works, too!

Thanks!
