Monday, June 23, 2025 at 6:36PM 2025 Property Tax increases were discussed in the June 19/25 e-Spokes and focussed on the Total Tax $ impact. Total Tax $ changes are due to assessed value changes and mill rate changes.
Lower assessed values can mask the impact of tax increases so the following table shows just the mill rate changes.
You can see that CVRD Electoral Area G taxes increased 12.33%, Thetis Island Improvement District 12.88%, and Thetis Island Trust 8.96%. All of these increases are more than the annual inflation of 2.4%. (Victoria BC 2.4% annual inflation at April 2025). Consumer Price Index
For those Thetis Island residents with the same or higher assessed value, their 2025 property taxes are higher than 2024 and substantially higher than the rate of inflation.
Thanks to Karl Unger for pointing this out.

Monday, June 23, 2025 at 9:34AM That recent burst of moisture has allowed us to drop to MODERATE for a few days, so starting on TUESDAY June 24th the High Hazard Activity restrictions will no longer apply. It does make sense to still watch for sparks and have water available.
Depending on the weather and drying trends, we may be in MODERATE for a short time, so check the board at the ferry terminal, eSPOKES, and the TIVFD website for updates.
We will issue evening campfire permits for July but be aware that we might have to cancel them at any time as conditions may rapidly change.
Thank you for being wildfire safe.
