Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 8:08PM We have had some pretty good rains to soak the ground to an acceptable depth and start recharging the aquifer. Category 2 Yard Waste Fire Permits will be available on October 1st for the month. Apply at www.thetisislandfire.ca
The Ministry of Environment has updated its interactive map for determining if Thetis Islanders can vent Category 2 smoke on any given day. You must check the smoke control Venting Index before igniting your burn pile to find out if the Venting conditions allow you to do so. The map update now is coloured and says No, or Yes -1day or Yes -4 days so you can plan ahead. The map data is changed daily at 07:30 a.m. Thetis Island is in the Southern Vancouver Island Smoke Sensitivity Area.

It is a long day from about 7:30 am to 9:00 pm and requires a training day in Duncan.
Friday October 11 6-9 for Poll clerks, or Thursday October 17 from 2-5 for information officers.

Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at 11:11AM On Saturday November 2nd, 2019, the Thetis Island Improvement District and the Thetis Island Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting an opening ceremony for the newly renovated and expanded Thetis Island Fire Hall.
A hose uncoupling and speeches to officially open the hall will take place at 1:30 PM. This will be followed by light refreshments, and a chance to explore the island's new firehall.
Trustees and members of the fire department will be available to point out features of the hall and equipment and to answer your questions.
Everyone is welcome...

Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at 11:10AM Is anyone attending the Climate Strike in Victoria on Sept 27th with spare room in their vehicle? Or is anyone going to Victoria that morning for another reason but with extra space for transporting some lovely youth?
We are short 3 spaces in our ride share to help the Cowichan Valley Earth Guardians (who co-organized the recent Climate Strike in Duncan) participate in the Victoria event. These three youth live in the Chemainus/Duncan/Mill Bay area.
