Request to all Islanders to Help Improve Ferry Service (with a special plea to construction crews and movers)

First, I want to thank the ferry crew for their excellent handling of the especially high traffic of exceptionally heavy construction & moving vehicles (at least 4 cement mixers, 2 heavy-duty Mack trucks, 2 long-haul moving trucks, & a flatbed with crane) on Wednesday, 31 July.

Unfortunately, even with the best of efforts, that many difficult-to-maneuver vehicles resulted in a lengthy delay of sailings (nearly an hour's delay by mid-day).

While there's no avoiding these kinds of delays, it would help relieve the burden on us all if everyone responsible for such transports would please notify the community in advance of high traffic and/or heavy transport (through espokes@gmail.com & thetisposts and the Busy Ferry Schedule at www.thetisisland.net, contact veronica@thetisisland.net) so that we can plan our travel accordingly.

Many thanks!
Concerned Islanders

Disclaimer!

Contrary to local belief, I am not writing "Stripped to the Studs".

As much as I appreciate the information that Shirlee XX provides, I am not able to provide such a chatty structure and my name is spelt in the traditional way. SHIRLEY.

Sorry, no kisses.

Nature House Special Event this Sunday

This Sunday, August 4th, from 12:30 to 3:00 PM, join Doug Biffard for a short talk on the BC coastal environment and citizen science monitoring techniques. We will then map zones and count biota with a transect at low tide.

Doug is a local diver and retired aquatic ecologist. He started diving in 1975 in the BC interior and then moved to the coast to work as Geoduck diver. After completing college and a career in aquaculture Doug joined BC Parks as the provincial Aquatic Ecologist for 19 years. Doug was involved in the development of citizen science to monitor natural and cultural features in protected areas. He has participated in volunteer fish monitoring surveys from Prince Rupert to California, the Caribbean and South Pacific.

Hey Thetis!

We have a dog that will eat anything, and on the Lawrence Spring Trail someone regularly leaves behind their own stool just off the trail, and my dog finds it and eats it, and he keeps getting sick hours after, it is clear to be human feces as there is always a bunch of toilet paper left behind, which also concerns me as toilet paper is bleached and my dog is consuming that as well.

As dog droppings must be cleaned up, so must human droppings be cleaned up, especially seeing as this person is evidently prepared to have a bowl movement on the trail, judging by the amount of toilet paper left behind every time.

At the least, maybe they could start pooping on the leashed part of the trail, so that my dog won't be able to get it.  (NO! note: from thetisposts editor)

I ask please if we could all bury our stool or bring a dog bag and wrap up your own poo, my dog is throwing up and it stinks incredibly bad. This may seem disgusting but it is quite normal especially for rescue dogs, so I do not think I am not asking an unreasonable favour.
