Hello everyone – I have recently completed putting together a little book of short stories written by Dale Burkholder, in memory of this dear friend. Entitled  “Four Part Harmony”, this volume of Dale's work includes four short stories and is about 80 pages in total. Thetis Island Improvement District AGM: Saturday

The Thetis Island Improvement District will be holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday August 22nd, 2020 at the Fire Hall beginning at 11:00 AM. 

This public meeting is to report on the 2019 operations of the Fire Department, the Improvement District, and whatever other items of business may be raised.

We will follow Provincial guidelines for social distancing and hygiene:

The fire engines will be staged on Mission Road for operational readiness.

Chairs will be spaced a minimum of 2 metres apart in the truck bays and outside on the apron, NOT the drill room.

Attendees are encouraged to wear a non-medical mask or face covering.

Hand sanitizing stations will be set up.

Appropriate hall surfaces will be sanitized before and after the meeting.

Roadside Trash

In the years visiting Thetis Isl., then living here for a long time, I have noticed cigarette butts everywhere.

This includes dog excrement. 

Wrappers strewn here and there.

I do not understand that concept to 'just throw litter,' including cans, bottles, anywhere.

Butts are litter and dangerous at that. If I had counted them during my walks,

I believe I would have a huge bag to dump, plus many more.

I would love people to refrain from throwing out their garbage from vehicles or when walking.

Also, I wish that dog owners would be so kind and considerate to have their dogs kept in their yards, or on a leash while walking.

It is most frustrating when a dog jumps into my yard and barks at me, or scares the heck out of me! It has happened time and again. The rules in the city for dogs is also the same here.

I have asked time and again to please have your pet on a leash, or in a fenced in area in their yard. This way deer will not be chased across properties or on road.

It would be most pleasing if we all followed rules of etiquette.  

I appreciate David Green’s comments on espokes this morning.

Now in EXTREME Hazard

As of Monday afternoon the reporting wildfire station readings moved up from 4 (HIGH) to 5 (EXTREME). 

THURSDAY AUG.20 will be the last day of “early shift” where high hazard activities such as chainsawing, mowing, milling, chipping, etc. must cease at 11 a.m. and a fire watch posted for two hours after.  

FRIDAY AUG 21 all high hazard activities are banned until further notice.

Please report all smoke sightings to 911.
