MLA visit to Thetis Island

On Thursday June 26th, our MLA Debra Toporowski, will be coming to Thetis Island to hear from Islanders. Ms Toporowski is also the Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Health, and she will be meeting with the Forbes Hall Health Group in the morning. From 1 to 2:30  pm in the afternoon there will be a public meeting for Ms Toporowski to hear from groups and individuals.

Found Floaty Mat

It was in the water between the Govy and Ferry dock. Multicoloured and new looking. Left it on the logs on the beach at the Capernwray side of the ferry terminal.

Grass Fed, Pasture Raised Lamb

Dear fellow neighbours and friends,

I thought I’d pass along this offer from a farm I sometimes work at in Chemainus. They raise beautiful grass-fed, pasture-raised lamb.

The meat is processed at Gunters, a government approved facility, then boxed, sealed, and frozen directly at the processor. We've been getting our lamb from this farmer for a few years now, and it's always been excellent.

I'm doing a run today and could bring a box or so to Thetis around 3 p.m. if anyone is interested. The cost is $12/lb hanging weight, and each box is approximately 25–40 lbs, depending on the animal. He only has a very limited amount available so if you are interested, sooner than later is best.

If you’re not ready today, feel free to email or text me and I can pass along the farmer’s contact info so you can make arrangements yourself.

Just wanted to share in case anyone’s looking to stock their freezer with some really high-quality local lamb.

Hosted by the Thetis Island Nature Conservancy (ThINC) and Community Climate Resilience (CCR), this powerful feature-length documentary explores the restoration of a wetland that uncovered the site of an ancient Sinixt village - and the profound collaboration that followed between Indigenous and settler communities.

Co-directed by Autonomous Sinixt Matriarch Marilyn James and settler conservationist Lorna Visser, the film is a moving reflection on land stewardship, cultural resilience, and reconciliation.

HIGH DANGER CLASS Continues

We are still holding at HIGH FIRE DANGER CLASS and the outlook for this coming week does not look like we will get any moisture. This means that all gas powered equipment and metal bladed equipment used near woods, bush or grass must not be operated after 1 pm in the afternoon and a two hour fire watch posted.
For wildfire safety on our island, please comply with the regulations. We are already getting complaints that some people don’t know the rules.
Let’s get through this fire season unscathed.
