Jollity Farm: Thetis Island Goat Meat (Chevon)
Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at 10:16AM Our one-year-old goats are pasture raised year round. When forage is low in winter, they get free choice, high protein local hay supplemented with grain. They have access to omri-certified kelp supplement and trace minerals to ensure a good balance in their diet, resulting in healthy animals and nutrient dense meat.
Goats are "browsers" and are truly animals of our Thetis Island terroir, working various plots of land, eating blackberry & maple leaves, farm veggies and specially grown forage crops including millet, turnip & kale greens.
Young goat meat is prized for its lean, but tender and flavourful characteristics. It's more mild in flavour than lamb, but not as rich or greasy. Goat is especially rich in protein and iron and contains modest fat & cholesterol making it a good choice for a high protein, low fat diet.
