Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 10:34PM All Hands on Deck!
After a thoughtful, detailed meeting on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, TICA has signed a contract with J. Lealand Contracting Ltd. of Chemainus to build our Expanded & Upgraded Community Hall. Angela Quek - Architect, as our CRP, will continue to oversee & manage the contract.
On May 2nd, J Lealand Contracting Ltd. will start mobilizing to the site, and is scheduled to break ground on May 15th.
With our building permit & contract in hand, we are proceeding with the Packing & Moving of Forbes Hall.
Forbes Hall’s Final Weekend (April 20...) includes another great Get to the Point, and a re-showing of the Thetis Island Memories slide show on Saturday Evening. There will continue to be scheduled activities until Monday night.
TICA’s AGM will be held at Forbes Hall on Thursday, April 25th, amongst Packed Boxes and with Limited Services.
Tuesday through Friday (April 23-25) are our sorting and packing days, while Saturday & Sunday (April 27-28) are our moving and hauling days, as we pack the on-site containers, where almost everything will be stored for the duration of the build. There was a meeting last Sunday, April 14th, determining how the sorting, packing, and moving could be accomplished, with fourteen involved community members attending.
Sorting & Packing
Lead Volunteers are scheduled to supervise the packing. We are looking for many volunteers to sort, organize & pack.
Please drop by and help on these days, no need to sign up, just show up during the times listed. Many hands are needed!
April 23 Tuesday 9:30 - Noon Don Sinclair - Lead
April 24 Wednesday 9:00 - Noon Celine Valestrand - Lead
April 25 Thursday 9:00 - Noon Tatiana Nemchin - Lead
April 26 Friday 9:00 - Noon Shirley Burr - Lead
Moving & Hauling

We need to keep a roster of movers and haulers, so please contact Ann Dickie dickie.ann@gmail.comby Friday April 26th to sign up for any of the following shifts (or let any of the Lead Volunteers know):
Saturday 9:30 - 3:30 Sunday 9:30 - 3:30
9:30 - 12:30 9:30 - 12:30
12:30 - 3:30 12:30 - 3:30
We ask that if you will need food to please bring a packed lunch or snack.
Work gloves, closed toed shoes are essential, and steel-toed footwear would be great if you have it.
If you’ve ever enjoyed our library, a bowl of soup, a concert, an active discussion, or any of the other events over the past 30+ awesome years at Forbes Hall, please show your support, and help with the Packing & Moving.
Exciting times, let’s do it together!

Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 10:33PM Please drop off any packing boxes you might have (or pick up for us when you’re across) to Forbes Hall Tuesday, April 23 through Friday, April 26 from 9:30 to Noon, or anytime the hall’s open before those days.
Liquor boxes are a great size, as when they’re full, they are still manageable weight-wise. Larger and smaller will be accepted!
We are about to embark in the packing & moving of Forbes Hall, and Boxes, We Need Boxes!
Thanks for your help in advance,
Forbes Hall Expansion & Upgrade Committee

Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 10:32PM In celebration of our Forbes Hall shutting down and construction commencing soon, I will be showing the Thetis Memories Slideshow this Saturday, April 20th @ 7pm at Forbes Hall.
This 1hr slideshow contains over 600 photos of special island events over the past 30 yrs. For long-time residents, it’s a fun walk down memory lane. For those new to Thetis, you might call it a history lesson of our community spirit! Admission is free. If you wish to make a donation to the Forbes Hall Expansion Project, your contribution will be warmly welcomed.
Gather up your Easter company and come on out to enjoy one last movie night in our existing Hall. Looking forward to seeing you there!
