Mission Road Congestion

Mission Road is now congested with trucks and construction crew vehicles due to the Fire Hall expansion project.

If you will be using the Lawrence Spring Trail or the Community Trail at the head of Mission Road, please note that there is no public parking past the Forbes Hall exit driveway.  '

Park your vehicle at Forbes Hall and start your walk there. There is a short-cut behind the tennis court with steps to Mission Road.

Be very careful when walking past the construction site while equipment is operating. Possibly adding to the chaos will be Fire Dept. members rushing to the hall when our emergency pagers go off.

Thank you for your understanding.

What's the Buzzzzzz?

Whats the buzz? Pollinators are in trouble, but you can help!

On Saturday July 14 Lora Morandin of Pollinator Partnership Canada and The Island Pollinator Initiative will be doing a workshop. We will explore the WHO and What of bees and Why it is important to protect and restore native bee populations.

The workshop starts at 11am at the Nature House at the Portal. We will be doing some class room learning followed by on site observation and identification.

Bring a bagged lunch, water, sunscreen and a hat. And there is more!

For those interested, later in the day, we will be making handmade seed paper using recycled paper and native flower seeds our pollinators love. Workshops are offered to everyone in the community. Members of the Nature House are free otherwise a donation is appreciated.

Golf "Art" for Sale ~ Clarification

To answer some questions.

The Three Stooges Golfing Photo, Golfing with Friends is actually poster size: 4' x 3'  mounted.

The word "impotent" was intended as a joke, 'A play on words" E.G. impotent Vs. important, get it?

Unwanted Fruit in Exchange for Discount on Pruning

As some of you know Anaïs and I are raising pigs for ourselves and a few neighbours, so we are looking for any unwanted fruit that may fall to the ground this year.

In exchange for every 5-gallon bucket of pig grade fruit I’m willing to offer a $10-dollar discount on my pruning service in the fall & winter. I’ve already started to compile a list of my regular clients and thought I would extend this offer to the rest of the island.

We might also have an extra half pig if anyone is interested. We are raising a heritage breed and we are feeding only certified organic feed as a supplement to fresh fruit, veggies, fermented organic grain and forest forage. This is a great opportunity for someone because we set this up as a collective and plan to split the cost of feed and butcher fees keeping cost low for everyone.

We are also pasture-raising some French heritage meat chickens, and we will have limited availability this fall.
